He's currently sitting in the House, which he was elected to in 2010. So South Carolina was too racist to elect him. I like him and hope he is reelected. He is very conservative.
He was just reelected. He is very well liked in South Carolina.
BTW Demint favors Scott as his replacement.
If Haley appoints a black conservative [I believe she won't] he/she would only be in the Senate for about two years before he's voted out. South Carolina is one of the racist states in the union.

These 3 have obviously never been to South Carolina and know nothing about the state.

LOL so says SHABAZZ, probably named after some of the biggest racists in american history.
We can talk about the racial aspects of politics, without being racists.
Let's assume for the sake of argument Rick Scott is very bit as conservative as Jim DeMint. I know Scott has been elected (twice now) to his House seat. But those were DISTRICT elections.
My question is, would Scott's race be a deterrent to his being elected to STATEWIDE office in SC? And would the fact that Scott is black give Haley herself pause, as she makes up her mind- not because she's racist, but because she has a big decisison to make and has to work out the calculus?
What do South Carolinans on the board think?
I would say that Rep. Scott would have a more difficult time in the statewide elections, yes. Partly because Scott is from Charleston, and partly because he's black. Scott was elected in a sort of weirdly moderate district of South Carolina, which stretches up the coastline from Charleston to Myrtle Beach, with a lot of transplants.
Strom Thurmond, Jim DeMint , and Lindsay Graham are all typical upstate politicians, for example. The upstate tends towards extreme conservatism and southern baptist morals; Scott is evangelical, which helps a lot, but i guess we'll see if race outweighs that.
There has been a lot of speculation that Nicky Haley would tap SC Rep Tim Scott, a black conservative, as an interim replacement for Jim DeMint.
For a party trying to reboot with minorities, it would seem to be a smart move- appoint a black man, with impeccable conservative credentials, as the new US Senator from South Carolina. What better way to show blacks that Republican values and policies are for them too?
But here is an inside report that Haleyis considering a local BBQ owner instead (who looks like a Republican from a sit com)

South Carolina is 28% black...vs liberal Mass which is only 7.8% black. Now...which state is racist again? The ignorance of haters knows no bounds.
So Massachusetts is racist because, unlike South Carolina, it didn't important as many slaves?
I hate to tell ya this, but slavery ended over 150 years ago. If blacks felt that SC was so "wacist", wouldn't they go to friendlier states? Michigan, New York, NJ and and other NE states have a greater black population (by %) than MA. Ironically one of the most "liberal" states in the nation is not very welcoming to blacks...unlike SC. But don't let that ruin a good hate.
