I don't think anyone on Planet Earth thinks the phone call was the sole reason the nurse off'd herself.

My sense of humor doesn't include exploiting people who are ill and hospitalized. I have no sympathy for the jocks. I'm offended by what they did. It just plain wasn't funny.

I agree... It's tragic, but it makes no rational sense to me that someone would end her life and orphan her TWO CHILDREN all because she received a stupid prank call. It would seem that this woman had some other serious psychological issues.

No, I don't hold the DJ's responsible.

I lived with a man who suffered from depression for several years, and who attempted suicide several times. One day we had an argument over a BLOWDRYER, and I felt he was being unreasonable and that the argument was stupid, so I grabbed my purse and keys and said "I don't want to talk about this. I'm leaving."

I left for two hours and came home to blood everywhere. He took my words to mean that I was leaving him, and he'd slit his wrists and pounded them against the walls to keep the blood flowing. I had to rush him to the hospital, and then go home and clean blood from the walls, furniture, carpeting.

I wasn't responsible for the his choosing the worst possible interpretation of my remark. I wasn't responsible for his perception, or for him choosing to kill himself over that interpretation. He made those choices for himself. He was ill, his mind wasn't working properly, so I don't blame him for those choices. I tried to get him help, but he chose to walk away from doctors and treatment over and over and over. Mental illness is terrible, and leads to tragedy too often.

I knew he was mentally ill. The DJ's didn't know that this nurse was fragile (and she must have been fragile for this outcome to have occurred). They didn't know what would happen when they placed the call. And it's not reasonable to say they should have anticipated this outcome. There is no way they could have anticipated it. What happened is tragic, and people everywhere are saddened. But the nurse made the choice to end her own life, no one else made that choice but her. And therefore she alone is responsible for that choice.

Tragic story but to blame two DJs guilty at worst of a poor taste prank is IMO totally ludicrous. This Nurse was obviously already deeply damaged and fragilised and though this may have been the straw which broke the Camel's back there is no way she would have committed suicide over such a relatively inocuous event had she not already been terribly afflicted with depression of the worst kind.

I suffer from Chronic Depression and live with the thought of suicide on a daily basis. I would never blame anyone who simply might "upset" me on a really bad day as being responsible for what in the end are MY actions. Suicide is a complex issue and the layers of issues are numerous and often too tangled for even clinical specialists to truly understand. But committing suicide is a personal decision. Your mind might be clouded and your judgement unsound in some circumstances but the decision still ultimately rests with you.

She chose to end it all because for whatever reasons she could no longer cope. Having answered a phone call from two Australian idiots is extremely unlikely to have been the cause of her decision to check out. The news were mentioning she was living away from her family and this may have had far more of an impact on her mental well being and her stability. We have no idea what her life was previous to her deth, nor her state of mind.

I do find the response from some posters highly offensive though and their cavalier attitude to depression, and mental illness quite appalling. To insult this poor woman for killing herself is beyond crass, it is really quite vile and abhorrent.

Depression might be a joke to some people but believe me it is an illness just as cancer is. It has nothing to do with "pulling yourself together" and not being a "coward". The Brain is basically electricity and our body a complex organism which deals with a myriad of chemicals , and the wiring sometimes goes wrong, couple that with emotional issues, life experiences and you get a potent and potentially self destructive mix. True, deep , genuine despair is not something people should make light of so easily. If you have never experienced the fark hole of depression and the way it affects everything you do then quite frankly shut up.

I do not choose to have depression. I do not choose to feel suicidal. And I do not choose to find coping with certain things impossible. We ALL have our limits and I genuinely hope most people are never tested beyond theirs. But please show a little compassion and stop assuming a lot and learn to think before you open your hateful little mouths.

So no I do not think the responsibility should be laid at the feet of the perpetrators of what in the end was a rather pathetic and not particularily funny prank. It might have played a part in pushing someone over the edge but when you are set on that path, a push will always present itself at some point I think.

I just find it extremely sad and extremely tragic, she had kids , a husband and loved ones who will miss her and live with a sense of guilt and never knowing quite why which is usually common with the people left behind. A woman's life snuffed out by her own hands, who by the sound of it had much to give . And some posters making facile and self righteous remarks about a woman's worth. Pathetic.

And I would have thought also rather disturbing for Kate and Wills who should be wallowing in happy celebrations at the moment and whose moment of joy has been spoilt forever by this tragic event. They too must feel a slight sense of guilt knowing that the circus their lives have become and the prurient interest in the pregnancy the public takes will have incited this prank who went so , so badly wrong....

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for the DJ's. They never could have envisioned this kind of thing arising from what wasn't even a particularly malicious prank to begin with. Now everyone's making them out to be a pair of psychopathic bullies. One of the DJ's broke down during an interview this morning. They are clearly taken aback by all of this and overcome with regret. The nurse in question obviously had other issues, and, her being from India, I wouldn't be surprised if certain cultural inclinations may have played a part in her consideration of suicide as being the "honorable" solution to "dishonoring" the royal family. In any case, crucifying the DJ's for this doesn't help anyone.

The intention of these recorded prank calls is to embarass or humiliate the recipients. The intention may be humorous, but humiliation it is. There are consequences when you interfere with unknown people. I don't think they are responsible for this woman taking her life, but it doesn't take a psychiatrist to acknowledge this was the straw.

While donning my tin foil hat, a question of foul play by agents of the Crown occurred as a possible scenario- a huge lesson and warning to all potential pranksters and potential purveyors of royal information without proper verification.

I took the hat off and voila!... the respected nurse did indeed commit suicide and I can speculate endlessly on her many stresses and psychological problems- of which I have no clue or direct knowledge!

I won't speculate on what was going on with this nurse, but will say in my years of nursing, when taking care of VIPs there was always a lot of hoopla surrounding their privacy with hospital administration making it clear that breaches of confidentiality would be taken very seriously. The hospital in question stated they had taken no action regarding this call. I find that very hard to believe.

Same here. It's very serious to give out confidential information and when it concerns any dignitary or famous person and the mistake is broadcast around the world for all to laugh at, well, how do you expect the victim to feel?

The hospital must have been extremely embarrassed and maybe the next thing they were to have done (or had already done) was to discipline this nurse instead of giving her the much needed support that almost anyone would have needed.

Maybe she was going to be fined or fired or put in jail.
Maybe blacklisted so that she could never work again.
Some people need to back off and show a little more human compassion rather than thinking they can prank and bully anyone they want--and playing jokes on hospitals, police and fire departments, 911 dispatchers---pretty low life.

Who I have a problem with is the CEO of the radio station. If he had such a problem with what they did then he should have suspended them from the get go. Instead he waited till the station started taking heat for that fragile RN's suicide to suspend them. I'm sure he was loving the ratings his station was receiving in the days after the prank went viral.
