This is something that really bugs me. I read it on here and hear it in conversations. People seem to think when a non-white is racist it is called reverse racism. When I hear that term I picture people of all races sitting around a campfire, holding hands, and singing kumbaya... is that wrong? I was under the impression that racism, from any race, was still racism. When did that stop? Why do people call it this? I don't understand.
There are a lot of different ways to define racism. Some people believe that by definition, racism is directional from a stronger, more powerful race to an oppressed one. It only works in one direction and only the more powerful race can technically be called racist. The minorities would more correctly be called prejudiced, but that doesn't mean that the same race-motivated behavior can't exist on both sides. When it does, it's sometimes called reverse racism because it's now going from the oppressed to the oppressor.
Racism is racism. Whichever direction it comes from and whichever race it aims to dehumanise, and diminish. Period.
If you consider yourself superior to or despise someone because of the colour of their skin and racial origins you are by definition a racist. There is no monopoly on stupidity, hatred and bigotry.

Because people have been indoctrinated to have a pre-set stereotypical image of what racism is and what a racist looks like (ironic, huh). Stating the word 'reverse' illustrates for them that it is not one of those cases.
Why is there such a thing as hate crime? Aren't all contacts involving criminals hate?
