For a party trying to reboot with minorities, it would seem to be a smart move- appoint a black man, with impeccable conservative credentials, as the new US Senator from South Carolina. What better way to show blacks that Republican values and policies are for them too?

Yes and it would also damage her long term political career in that state. If you want to be a SC Republican you have no choice but to appease the racists that are a big part of your voting bloc.

He's currently sitting in the House, which he was elected to in 2010. So South Carolina was too racist to elect him. I like him and hope he is reelcted. He is very conservative.

I guess you ignored the part about him currently holds elected office as a representative from SC and is very popular.

Let's assume for the sake of argument Rick Scott is very bit as conservative as Jim DeMint. I know Scott has been elected (twice now) to his House seat. But those were DISTRICT elections.
My question is, would Scott's race be a deterrent to his being elected to STATEWIDE office in SC? And would the fact that Scott is black give Haley herself pause, as she makes up her mind- not because she's racist, but because she has a big decisison to make and has to work out the calculus?

Scott would definitely be elected statewide in South Carolina. Of course you have the ignorant on here that have to show their a$$ every time it comes to the South.
