You must not know how the free lunch program works.

There would be NO "starvation", the total caloric value in lunches is what the average student needs.

Preschooler’s Homemade Lunch Replaced with Cafeteria “Nuggets”

Quote:
A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because the school told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious
Quote:
The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the person who was inspecting all lunch boxes in the More at Four classroom that day.

Three chicken nuggets are more nutritious than a turkey sandwich, banana, and apple juice?

Liberals have gone mad.

And by the tr*ll thread starter, I read the article and couldn't find where it said the brats were giving anyone the finger, so you MADE THIS UP, your faux outrage is truly ignorant, as are your stupid tripe threads.
No where in your rant did you explain why limiting growing, active students to 850 calories is a good thing.

The conclusion I draw from this thread is that there are some RWNJs who are of the opinion that schools should be obligated to provide an "All-U-Can-Eat" buffet for free. Who woulda thunk it.

However, they do have the option of getting mashed potatoes with gravy, a white roll, rice, a cookie, or a juice box BUT they have to pay for it. Kids that don't get free lunch can buy whatever they want.

Parents were pissed but I didn't see the problem...your kid is hungry, you can't afford to feed them so what difference does it make if they're drinking milk or juice?
Now this one brings up a good point with the "parents were pissed" comment.

Here's the question I have regarding these fools: whatever happened to shame in this equation?

Back in the day; if parents couldn't afford to or simply wouldn't provide a lunch; the shame associated with that kept their stupid mouths glued shut from complaining about the content of said provided lunch.

Nowadays you get to declare you're either broke, lazy or stupid and still reserve the right to "beetch" about the nature and content of the freebie you're receiving? Whaaaasup?

Are you going to let your kids get to the work place before they learn everyone doesn't think exactly like mom and dad? Yes, the public schools need some improvement but you don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
No one is referring to "the whole world". This thread is specific to U.S. government regulations in U.S. government schools. If "playground skills" is your only defense for what is being shoved down the throats of children posing as "education", I submit that participation in YMCA or Boys & Girls Clubs will have the same if not superior benefits.

The baby was thrown out with the bathwater when government removed the mere mention of God from the unhallowed halls of its Progressive indoctrination centers. If you don't have the time to homeschool your kids or the resources to pay for private school, simple solution - don't have kids.

I heard of a recent case in a neighboring school district where a gung ho elementary school cafeteria aide took it upon herself to examine the lunches brought from home...one of the children had a sandwich, chips, a Little Debbie cake and a "Little Hug" juice drink (not real juice). They threw away his sack lunch and made him take the school lunch because the sack lunch "did not contain milk, fruit, or vegetables". They sent home a note charging him for the cafeteria lunch. His mother was really angry, particularly since they took it upon themselves to throw away the food she packed. It's an isolated case, though.

The junior/senior high school cafeteria where I work as a cook has two ala carte areas in addition to the main line (government guidelines) lunch. The kids can buy pizza, hamburgers, french fries, soft pretzels, and chicken sandwiches, plus we have a complete food bar with varied weekly offerings such as homemade meat loaf, stuffed peppers, a pasta bar, sweet potato casserole, baked potatoes, buttered noodles, homemade soups/chili, etc. If they don't get enough of what they like in the main line (government standard) lunch, they can purchase the foods from the ala carte areas to supplement it. It's cash only, though - they can't charge it on their lunch ticket. They can buy "double lunches", too - mostly the athletes do this.

The biggest battle is telling them they HAVE to take salad and a piece of fruit. Dozens of apples, oranges, and bananas end up being pitched in the trash. We now keep a bowl at the cashier's where they can put the fruit they don't want to eat.

Where in his rant did he state the student was being limited? If the kid wants or needs a 2000 caloric intake while he's on school time, he's still perfectly entitled to have his fool parents or himself provide it isn't he?

Is the school lunch intended to relieve parents or the family unit from providing sustenace for their growing progeny altogethor? OR is/was it intended to augment to guarantee minimum daily requirements would be met?

I still don't get it. Why and how did it become expected that schools should supplant the family home's responsibility to feed little Johhny?

Buying the textbooks from the previous graduating class was the norm for eons; how come the school wasn't obligated to provide them, along with shoes, clean underwear, a hanky, toothpaste, or any other daily necessities?

My parents had to remind me from time to time to bring my gym and sports gear (jock strap) home for washing occasionaly; is the school also to be expected to pick up that little duty now?

Hell, let's remove any vestige of parental or personal responsibility from these formative years altogether and simply assume they'll pick up THAT skill after graduating.

And nowhere in the OP did the link say "students gave the birdie to michelle obama's rules" which means the OP made sh*t up to troll for responses.
