I wouldn't call a 3.5% difference in popular vote and 332 electorates "narrow". Obama's 2012 victory was a wider victory than the one Bush had in 2004.

Also, the only reason the Republicans remained control of the house was because of gerrymandering. The democrats actually won a plurality in the 2012 house elections.
