Well, how would criminals have them if there were none? Criminals in the UK don't have them and the whole country has about 30 gun deaths a year as opposed to 30,000 for the US.
As for private citizens needing guns to ward off a governments military (for what reason i cant imagine) i doubt a bunch of fat weekend wannabe's with guns are going to give a well trained military much in the way of opposition.
You seem to forget that a few of us (21.5 million as of 2011) are veterans, a large number of whom have combat experience.
Actually the states with the highest murder rate are Louisiana and Missouri... and Arizona isn't perfoming better: there are several crime-ridden cities in right-to-carry states, as well as several crime-ridden right-to-carry states, therefore picking Scottsdale e Plano doesn't prove anything.
Veterans or not do you really believe a weekend militia unit will have any chance against the resources a modern Army/Marine/Seal unit can bring to bare if thats what it came down to?..
Or your 21 million individuals could be a cohesive enough battle force to take on a dedicated US military?
To answer the Op's question i think less guns would result in less people being killed by guns.

Some of us still retain some reasonable skills.
As for the rest, of course not. I was simply responding to a pejorative, insulting and patronizing characterization in the post.
However, at issue is that I doubt you'd have a military dedicated to turning its fire power on its own people. Also factor in about 80 million private gun owners. It would be ugly!
Oh sorry, another right-to-carry, trashy red state.
Anyway, the link confirms my point: several right-to-carry states have high crime/murder/homicide rates.
And Hawaii - the least armed state - is the safest one.
Thanks

Assuming you swing to the rather far-left, yet another indication that despite their much ballyhooed "progressiveness," liberals are among the least tolerant.

Most of us own rifles, especially in areas where most people hunt. We get that you don't like guns but a touch of common sense would be refreshing. Try it. You might like it.
