Mother sees son on tv attempt a robbery. Picks up son at friends house and takes him to the police.
In my criminal days (when I was 10), I shoplifted a greeting card meant for Tanya, the girl in the grade below me who I had a crush on. My mom found the card, took me firmly by the ear, and walked me down to the Hallmark to turn it in and apologize. It was a learning moment.
I would do the same thing as this mother did. Kudos to her.

"My mama never took up for us when we were wrong. My mama gave us the best tough love that she could give us," she said. "Right now, he's still shocked and he's still hurt."
She said she wanted to speak publicly after receiving adverse comments through social media. It's not yet clear whether the boy will be tried as a juvenile or adult.
Some folks have this perverse notion that in order to prove you love your children you must run interference for them while they commit criminal acts. She did the right thing and those criticizing her are the ones with a real problem.

Ah, yes. I stole some candy once. My mother made me take it back and apologize. And pay for it, to boot! I didn't steal again.
This mother in the OP is indeed a great mother. There's nothing more sickening than seeing a batch of wailers on TV boohooing about what a good person their murderous son was. Boy, they can really ratchet it up, too.

You are absolutely correct. Learning right from wrong, responsibility,
and bad actions lead to bad consequences.
