I just don't understand how in a "free" country, anyone could be subject to paying HALF (or more) of their income to the government. It just isn't acceptable.

Actually it is a 3% tax increase to 13% of the monetary state tax. In reality, they would still see a small difference with what they currently pay taxes and it would only effect the top incomes in the state, not all of California.

This is bad... Utah is already overflowing with rich Ex-Californians but now we are gonna be absolutely inundated.

WAIT! But that doesn't include all the other built in taxes.. Property tax.. sales tax.. fuel taxes... etc.. I'd say its safer to bet it is even higher than half .. even for the non high income earners.

You are a liar and no one in California pays a 50% of their income in taxes. What they do pay is a 50% gross rate on the last 1/5th of income before deductions. The effective tax rate for these people combined Fed and state is likely more around 15%-25%.

That's a fact, son.

Sad. Nobody, I don't care how "rich" you are should have to work to the point that someone else gets more of their income than they get to take home.

Why would wealthy Californians move to Utah or some other low-tax state like Washington? They've got enough money to live wherever they want. Save your compassion for the poor, the rich don't need it.

Probably because rich people don't like to be robbed either!

#1 I'll disregard that you call me a 'liar'... and #2, I will gladly not be called your son... I'd rather be called a sir. Thank you

#3 - No where did I mention anything about the effective tax rate.. I just stated on what the state/federal government will be calling for the new tax rates... How much and what they pay.. well its up the feds/irs and how many loopholes they leave open for everyone to use to 'write off' income.
