Right now this is justified via terrorism, but I can easily see it morphing into a health care matter. In fact it might be inevitable. Health care is already about 20 pct of federal spending, and that number will only get bigger. More than 50% of health care costs are due to behavior (obesity, drinking, smoking, etc).

We're going to see tremendous pressure to cut those costs somehow. Did you buy a pack of smokes or jug of vodka on your debit card? Look at a hooker site on your smart-phone, or cruise thru a stroll area at 12 midnight (per your gps). Or go thru a McDonald's drive-thru (again, per your GPS)?

It's outrageous. Just how many terrorists have been captured on U.S. soil in the last decade? The U.S. has become paranoid.

It's sad what the United States has become. Party politics and party culture have ruined this democracy utterly, and there is no accountability to the people. The US needs a different political system, this one was invented hundreds of years ago and is revered religiously without justification. There are more effective democratic models than the one that lets things like this keep happening without real consequences.

Default Misssion Creep

Sounds like mission creep amongst the professional paranoids. Remember the first task of any bureaucracy is to sustain its growth in cost and power. Every agency, with the security guys’ worse than most, tries to get more of the pie. Right now "terrorism" is a reason for imposing a so far genteel terrorism by our own people on our own people.

I would prefer a few random bombings to these people any day. After all bombings are local and infrequent but these people are going to be everywhere.

" Minority Report" might become reality. Don't even think about committing a crime, or anything else that might be considered subversion against the government.

Really well stated!

This was a big reason for the American Revolution. And King George had nothing on DHS:

The United States is creeping towards a police state. You are now guilty until proven innocent, and if you aren't guilty enough for them they can fly a drone over your house and start filming you.
