With a visit to California and noticing the amount of people speaking Spanish( on their way to watch soccer being played) one has to wonder how long will the USA stay a type of English speaking country ?
With the whitepocalysed due to hit the US in 2043 and the US no longer being a majority Anglo country what changes do people see coming ?

2043 Is the Date of America's Whitepocalypse

Considering that by the 2nd generation the kids speak Spanglish or broken Spanish, and by the 3rd generation they hardly speak a single word of Spanish, not in our lifetimes or our kids' lifetimes. All that Spanish you see in California are Mexican tourists and landed immigrants and illegal aliens who just crossed over the border.

Oh, and, I'm sick and tired of people implying this, but northern Europeans don't have a monopoly on being white! Greeks are also white, so are Italians, Spanish, Portuguese, and the Turks.

Never.

Some immigrants learn English (generally with heavy accents), some don't.

Most of the children are bilingual.

The third generation is usually English-only.

It's always been that way. Back when Benjamin Franklin was worried about German speakers taking over, that's how it played out. Ditto with the waves of Italians and Eastern Europeans, the Scandinavians and the Chinese.

So it is with todays Hispanics.

Consider 1890 (from the 1890 U.S. Census).

17% of Manchester, New Hampshire, could not speak English.
20% of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, could not speak English.
Language Policy -- Demographics

So it goes, as it always has. The 'problem' of Americans not speaking English is self-correcting. That's why we still overwhelmingly speak English, even though the bulk of our ancestry as a whole is not from English-speaking countries.

There's no such thing as white.

And in 2012 people should stop dealing with human beings in terms of "race" categories.

It's stupid.

As you may think they'll be majority english speakers by the third generation, you're talking about what used to happen here, before there were 20 channels available broadcast in Spanish, labels of common products in the market in two languages (english/spanish), government documents in spanish (and other languages), and "press 1 for english" "press 2 for espanol".

You're delusional if you think this nation will be speaking only one language after the 3rd generation.

Totally delusional.

The single largest group of people in the US are not English-Americans, it's German-Americans. Whatever happened to their German skills? Oh, right, fell by the wayside just like it's currently happening with the Hispanic kids. I think the OP is just trolling for a NASDJFHASDFHNAJ kinda reaction from the Nativists

Whitepocalyse? I love that term, but to answer the question probably never. The ones who are here for more than one generation tend to learn and speak English, it is only the ones that are first generation that tend to speak Spanish for their first language.

I didn't go into reading anything in this thread, but I have an idea of what I would find.

All I want to do is inform all "Americans" and the rest of the world that Spanish is a slave language to the spanish speaking populations in the Americas.

We are Natives of America and our original languages were forbidden to be spoken by the colonialists aka - slavers. We were forced to speak the language of our captors and it became the language we used everyday.

When Columbus came here, and all those who followed, We, the Natives of America, were not given the option to tell your ancestors that if you wanted to live here, they had to learn our languages and forget their culture.

They came here and committed atrocities. Our Native identity was wiped out. We were turned into "Indians".

No one has the right to tell any spanish speaking person of the Americas that they have to learn English, because just like spanish, it is a SLAVE language.

So please, stop the arrogance and racism. It shows what's in your hearts.

It makes you ugly.

Oh... you don't have the right to tell anyone to leave either - but we do! Yet, we do not! Because it's not in our hearts to treat people this way.

By 2043, the Latinos may not be the largest minority. The Asians could overtake them by then, or many peoples from the Mid-East, each a minority within a minority.

The thing is: We have always been a nation of immigrants. Our immigrant English speakers became a minority by 1900, after waves from E. Europe, Italy, and other non-English speakers arrived by their millions. English was the common tongue that bound all of the former Germans, French, Mexicans, English, Scots, Irish, Russians, Poles, Chinese, Japanese, Sea Islanders, and everyone else together.

The 3rd generation is when assimilation becomes complete. Even in culturally isolated groups, this has always been true, and there is nothing at all that says it won't be just as true in the future.

It's like that where I live. In large and very fast growing parts of the country, you will not hear English spoken much at all. The welfare offices all offer services in Spanish, it's a requirement that social workers know fluent Spanish for the immigrants pouring over the border who quickly find their way to them.
