As it happens, I agree with you. I was just pointing out how ludicrous malamute's argument was. Be definition, anything deemed illegal will be done/possessed only by criminals. Many people are less likely to do/own something if it is against the law, since most people tend to be basically law-abiding citizens. There's always a small (immature) contingent that will break the law just because it is a law, and there are always those who think laws don't apply to them. They are in the minority, however.

Probably the same way she would have felt when he would have stabbed her or choked her to death had their been no gun...

Probably scared, probably thought her son has lost his mind.

I don't think the thought "Jeez, I wish the government DID ban guns...they were right" corssed her mind at all..

That's just my guess...

Yeah, excellent topic.

The larger problem is that the pdocs are so irresponsible. Spend a few minutes with folks who have Serious Problems, write a script, get the cash, and the damaged folks are out the door and on the streets.

If you dig a little deeper the real crazy killer routines come about when the folks go off the meds unplanned and unsupervised -- out of money, or figure they do not need them -- THEN Homicidal Ideation (as in killing everybody) is on the side-effect list at that stage.

But this is a Billion$ Dollar$ Pharmco industry we are up against on this.

I'm a huge Ferrari fan, but I don't advocate driving one while drunk, blind or otherwise impaired.

Now take a look at Canada, a country that does in fact have gun control.
That is certainly not true - Canada does allow people to have guns.

Canadian Firearms Program - Royal Canadian Mounted Police

They may restrict them more but they do in fact allow the ownership of guns.

It also manages universal licensing of firearms users, a system which supports individual use of firearms for hunting and various recreational purposes. And the CFP maintains national firearms safety training standards: over 1 million Canadians have now completed the CFP’s Canadian Firearms Safety Course.

Mexico allows guns but the government is very strict in regulating who can have them and for what purpose.

As a general note about all of the threads on psychiatric diagnosis, people really need to educate themselves about different disorders, evidence-based treatments and accurate risks and benefits of medications. Some of the misstatements I've read here today are staggering.

There is work to be done on detection and treatment prior to tragedies like the one in CT, absolutely. There is also work to be done to restrict the access of people who have no business with a gun from having one. Although, in this case, they were his mother's and obtained legally, not sure there's too much that can be done about that from a gun control perspective.

And YOUR ilk invites me to condemn, once again, the culture that YOU have created in which machines that are designed to kill are revered, worshipped and treated as status symbols. Better yet, toys.

Stuff your Second Amendment bleating. You have no interest in a well-armed militia, only in proving to yourself that you're a bad ass and impressing your friends.

It's sick. Period.

What do the "gun nuts" you speak of said she should do?

Enlighten us.
