0bama will their hero for extending unemployment compensation, but they won't hold him to task for four years and nothing to show but unemployment, poverty, and "the worst economy since the great depression."
To be sure, these liberals would snap out of their ignorance and bliss if the president these past four yeras were a republican. Then we would be hearing all about the poor stagnant economy, and CNN and the broadcast news channels would be tag teaming with shows about the poverty and despair the people are suffering.

what they can and should do for themselves.

This brings up another point - I work, pay (federal income) taxes, and don't get government assistance (childless adults basically qualify for squat), so I presume most conservatives would consider me a success story while earning minimum wage and having zero wealth.

Since there are not nearly enough jobs for everyone to have one - let alone jobs which pay wages sufficient to leave government dependency - getting a few more millions to do the same merely displaces other jobholders, who will then seek government assistance.
Think of our economy as one enormous game of musical chairs.

I'm curious as to how old you are. If you've just joined the workforce (maybe early 20's) you've still got time to get ahead.
Most "liberals'" main motivation is self-congratulation. In fact there is a whole book explaining their basis. It is entitled The Vision of the Anointed, subtitled Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy.
