I'm up for any solution that would end such tragedies but I don't know if banning guns would be the answer, there are way too many guns out there. I do know one thing, three thousand died on September 11th without a single shot being fired.

The right to arms of the citizen is not in any manner dependent upon the 2nd Amendment for its existence.
True. You are born with the personal liberty to possess an efficient way of securing your safety and your freedom. The 2nd Amendment is merely a reflection of this on paper.

Sorry, but that's a BS argument. The whole basis of mental illness is that you don't have the mental capacity to take personal responsibility, or sometimes to even understand what's real or right from wrong. We don't have sane criminals--robbers or drug lords--walking into schools or movie theaters or public events and randomly shooting down everyone they see--those crimes are done by people with mental illness.

Only someone who would buy a gun is evil --- his mother was evil. The mother owned the guns, so all the evil was in her, the individual who chose to use the guns to murder people is just good.

I actually blame the media and the teachers that taught them. There once was a time when we had decent journalists and last night we would have known everything we needed to know about the shooter. Now we just have a bunch of opinion jockeys and pretty faces that regurgitate what we just saw and heard for ourselves at a press conference.
It would be a better country if this could be accomplished. And make it a 30 year minimum prison sentence to be in possession of an illegal handgun. These gangbangers would be throwing theirs into the river.
Laws like that aren't working to stop illegal drugs.
The argument from gun nuts boils down to this: we can't stop gun violence, so don't bother trying.
