It would be better to take a long hard look at the pharmaceuticals these nutcases have been given their entire lives.

You can bet this guy's brain was seeped in drugs like ritalin and prozac most of his life. Serious psychotic problems are masked and worsened by drugs.

It's not just untreated mental illness, it's inappropriately treated mental illness. Thsi guy was said to have a "personality disorder" which indicates how much somone was downplaying a psychopath diagnosis.

Almost 100% conjecture in this post. Does not advance the dialog.

But the shooter was raised in a gun culture obviously. Most of these nuts are.

Because that is the knee jerk reaction to this, which was talked about and predicted by many.
Mental health is the next, again talked about and predicted.

Ban the guns. Open more mental health clinics.
You haven't solved your problem though.

We never admit and face our problems head on.

The asylums were closed because the "mentally ill" had rights.
The process of getting someone committed due to mental illness was changed due to the rights of the mentally ill.

Easier to deal with the weapon then to deal with the shooter, especially if he's dead.

And mental health issues is yet another bandwagon everyone jumps on.

Articles I've read this morning say he had no issues, was pretty smart and just a normal, shy kid in school.

What is sad is the number of people who think when confronted by a person with a gun wanting to do harm, they will be able to call a "time out" until they locate and quick draw their own gun to "protect" themselves with.

What is equally sad is that there is an equal number thinking they can call a "time out" and go call the cops to come save them.

I understand what happened was done over minutes.

But on the other hand, why are people like you so in love with coddling and protecting guns??
If you lost a loved one, would you feel any better that it was by a bomb or car accident instead of a bullet?

As opposed to rolling over and getting shot?

Yeah I'd rather have the chance to defend myself. After 10's of thousands of round of practice and 35 years I suspect my chances are pretty good.
