And by a significant increment, since a) law-abiding people will turn them in anyway, b) improved police intelligence - like tracking IPs of people who boast about their "collection" - will locate many of the numbskulls who would try to hang onto them, and c) the remainder of hardened criminals, survivalists and other nutjobs will at least find it harder to trade them about like baseball cards. Of course it won't eliminate them entirely, but a serious police effort can make a much bigger dent than is generally assumed.
I see that many of you progs think combining all those covert methods with the overt laws can get rid of those weapons. Did you read the word retroactive in the report from DF? Maybe you don't know what that word means, but I do.
I agree, but to be practical you can't have one without the other. The American perspective varies greatly depending on the groups you speak with...
Which is a great argument for limiting the federal government and letting the states deal with their own problems. We don't need Representatives from Chicago pushing legislation on the entire country based on problems in Chicago. People in Boise or Fargo don't need a gun ban because criminals in Chicago kill each other by the handful every day.
Apparently, it hasn't sunk in with you that you gun worshipers lost the last election. And you have no chance again with the changing demographics of ever holding the executive again with the current GOP brand that caters to bitter, old, white, men.
So don't be so sure an assault weapons ban won't be in your future.
Where on the ballot did you see anything about gun bans? Somehow all I saw about gun bans was when progs kept on telling us that Obama hadn't tried in his first four years to get our guns so why should we think he would attempt it. Here he was Friday evening talking about getting something done about guns and is first term isn't over yet.
Let me get this straight. You're saying box cutters are more deadly then guns? Like I said perviously banning guns will not stop violence! What banning guns will do is limit the death toll when violence occurs.
Your proposed gun ban would have helped lower the death toll during 9/11 how?

What I'm saying is people are dangerous, the tools they use to commit their acts are just objects.

Are you saying box cutters can't be used to slash throats and murder someone? When you're murdered, you're going to be just as dead if they used a knife or a bullet.
Good for her. Even if it doesn't pass, it's good to have the discussion. Hopefully gun lobbyists aren't against simply having a discussion about it.
Congress responds to it's constituents. If the budget is your number one priority, call or email your representative. Most of the rest of the country is more concerned with gun violence right now, I believe.
"Dianne Feinstein as San Francisco mayor, she tried to ban handguns in San Francisco, while she was enjoying the protection of both a police bodyguard and her own concealed carry (CCW) handgun permit."
"And, I know the sense of helplessness that people feel. I know the urge to arm yourself because that's what I did. I was trained in firearms. I'd walk to the hospital when my husband was sick. I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out, I was going to take them with me."
Well, ot I know, but does this mean we won't have to endure any more of those threads entitled "obama hasn't banned guns yet" by 2nd amendment democrats?
Nah, these kinds of bills are designed to fail. Next time there is a mass shooting, she will say she tried to stop it in congress, but the GOP wouldn"t let her
