But if it makes you feel all warm and snug targeting "rednecks" then go for it.

We all know Obama isn't going to do much about this.

Besides, we've probably killed close to a thousand kids in Afghanistan drone strikes in the past couple years. A interesting double standard.
That is the gist of it.

I have always said that gun control is more about aesthetics than crime prevention. Icky people own guns and they don't like them. For instance I'm friends with this upper-middle class ultra-liberal woman who is very anti-gun and the majority of her arguments for gun control consist of guns are scary and Republicans are evil incarnate (I actually have some agreement with her on that one). She has a genuine fear of guns and is not rational in the slightest. For instance I had to do some training for job I had a while back and the guy doing the training also owned a gun store. Now, the job I was doing had nothing to do with firearms, but this guy was qualified in a few things. Every now and then he would sometimes show me a gun in his private collection. He showed me a Kentucky Long Rifle, a Glock 17, and a Mossberg Pump Action (actually that one he didn't "show" me as such, he just asked me to hold it while he went to go get something). My ultra-liberal friend was horrified at this. The fact that I have held a gun "deeply concerned" her. I wasn't buying guns and I wasn't even firing guns nor was considering doing either. I just merely held them when they were given to me after he checked to make sure they were not loaded, but this freaked her out and seemed to make her question my character.

In my experience that is the common attitude towards people who are strongly in favor of gun control. Guns are evil. End of story. And if guns are evil, then people who like them are evil and people who say that guns are tools mean that they are a tool for evil. Just holding a gun means that some of that evil must have rubbed off on me.

That is why so much of the rhetoric is about about rednecks and suburban gun owners. The statistics say they are not committing the majority of the murders, yet from all their howling you'd think they were the most dangerous group out there.

I believe that the primary reason for having the 2nd amendment actually put on paper was to leave no doubt that people had a right to defend themselves from their own government if they had to. The hunting, plinking, and burglar-shooting aspect was just an added benefit. Unfortunately, most people would rather talk about hunting and plinking because they're too uncomfortable and sheepish to acknowledge that governments have a tendency towards despotism from day one.

I hate to disagree, but i surely will. Some people own guns, for no reason other then safety. Fact, i know many people who own guns for this reason, infact republicians and democrat friends alike.

My reason, i had two wonderful loving caring, realitives murdered in their own home. Do you know what that is like when you get that damn phone call. You know your loved one had many many more years to live, but was taken so early, and so violenty.

Do you know what it is like to have to identify a loved one who was murdered, do you" it is sheer hell, and you change who you are for quite a while. Your angry, non-forgiving and hate the human race.

The burglar aspect is very real for me, for our home has been broken into twice, from people coming in from other areas, we were told. Ransacked, things thrown everywhere, my belongings gone thru, a coin collection that we got from my hubby's grandma, was taken, as was jewelry, which i could care less about. I cared more about the person ravishing thru my belongings, that i did not know. Eating my food in my home, which he had broken into. Leaving little notes, that *******, and porn hanging in my home from the ceiling.

You expreience this, and tell me how you would feel. I know how to shoot own guns, and yes would use them if necessary, and only then.

Take guns away from the law abiding gun owners, the thugs, the bad guys, the crooks, the thieves, the murderers, will still get their hands on them believe me.

Don't forget all the Mexicans that his wonderful Fast and Furious gun walking program have killed so far.

Not true.

Doesn't Mexico and Russia have strict gun laws? Both have murder rates nearly three times that of the USA.

Yeah, but the Republicans don't want to pay for people's mental health problems.

Please stop confusing this thread with facts. We need to stay on a steady course of knee jerk reactionism, and throwing out historical truths only makes it harder to ignore reality.

Stop paying for 98 months of unemployment, reinstate the mandatory work policies of welfare, and remove all pork spending.

This will create plenty of cash to pay for the important things. We have become a frivolous nation of barrow and spend, leaving us too poor to pay for the things we really need.

Of course this is all on the Republicans, since Democrats have always been spending hawks... right?
