It seems like only yesterday, a group of 5 young black boys were sentenced to 20+ years for raping a white woman, despite the fact that there was no real evidence. All of these young boys spent at least 12 years in prison, before DNA evidence exonerated them.

Despite having the convictions overturned, the boys never received true justice. All of the attorneys that prosecuted them still have their law licenses and needless to say, nothing happened to the arresting officers either. None of the prosecutors, or members of the NYPD have officially apologized for the false arrests and prosecutions.

What should be done at this point?

I recall that when the boys at Duke University were accused of rape, they were fully exonerated (and never served one day in prison). Interestingly, the prosecutor was disbarred. Why was such swift action taken with the Duke students, but no such justice existed for the central park 5? Oh wait, I think I know why...

American justice at its finest...

I've never understood why within the Department of Justice that there is not a robust office that examines cases routinely to assure that innocent people do not rot in prison for a crime they did not commit. Prosecutors only want to put someone in jail, not seek justice. It could happen to anyone of us.

I don't think it could happen to white males, but that's just my opinion. I mentioned the duke case in my previous posting. Recall that there was a national outcry, for additional information regarding the accuser. Interestingly, it was the first time in history that a woman who filed a rape charge, actually had her identity and photo released to the national media.

In addition, the prosecutor was disbarred, despite the fact that the state of NC had not tried any of the duke students. Apparently, American justice still works for some.
