This is not meant as an attack against gun ownership in it's entirety. This argument is against the counter argument against the argument that the world would be better off if we banned guns (or certain types of guns).

Let's face it guns and ammunition are are one of the most lethal weapons per dollar spent on the weapon. They are also very effective weapons: no other weapon provides such range, lethality, and rate of fire compared to other weapons. It's alot harder to dodge a bullet than to dodge a throwing knife. Not to mention that you can run away from a person that is using say a blunt weapon than a man armed with a gun.

If you look back, the way weapon technology has improved... A single man can do the damage of what an arrow volley executed by many men can do with a gun.

...But access to weapons is but a small part of the equation. Some cultures have less violent crime than others, it may be easier to change our culture than to confiscate the weapons that are already there.

Two words: Timothy McVeigh.

Someone who is intent on doing massive amounts of violence will find a way to do so.

And how many times does a Tim McVeigh strike in countries where guns are hard to get?

But then again, wouldn't it be harder and more difficult to commit massive violence? Compared to using explosives or poisons, using guns and bullets is very easy in terms of both access to the weapon and cost of the weapons and ammunition.

Yes, but that doesn't mean we should do nothing to stop people who have committed violent acts in the past from obtaining even more guns in the future.

We already have laws that keep violent offenders from purchasing firearms. What more did you want to do?

The Mexican cartels can easily pick up the slack in that area.
They have no problems getting drugs into all parts of the US.

Seriously...the guy killed 28 people. I'm not sure how long it took him...but with a knife, it would have taken longer. It's obvious...

Do you realize how easy it is to make a high-yield bomb out of basic household ingredients? The plans for such are readily available on the internet. Availability of weapons is not the issue, people wanting to commit violent acts is.

And with a bomb, it would have taken even less time. Once again, availability of weapons is not the issue, people wanting to commit violent acts is.
