this from jan 20 ( 8 days after the first article )

Quote:
here is no deterrent to the culture of gun possession that grips many young men of ethnic background in southwest Sydney. And it is a culture. It is not a "spike" or a "peak" in crime statistics. It is a culture that is here to stay. Make no mistake about that.

Just six weeks ago in December, the head of the Bureau of Crime Statistics, Don Weatherburn, reported a 20 per cent rise in drive-by shootings for 2011. He also pointed out that the 88 shooting incidents were "largely contained" to just four police divisions in metropolitan Sydney.

Since January 1, there have been some 13 drive-by shootings and if the trend continues, Sydney could be heading for a record year in shooting incidents unless something is done quickly.

It will take a decade or more to make meaningful inroads into this culture, and that will come only when gangsters see their associates disappear into the prison system courtesy of mandatory sentencing on gun-related crimes.

and this is what happens when the cops talk to victims

Man shot in legs won't help police | News.com.au

Australia had this same problem and solved it. Here's how........

Gun control: After Connecticut shooting, could Australia's laws provide a lesson?
China has gun control too.

Trying to compare a completely different country to another is not very useful, because so many other variables are in play.

21st march , a young mum shoots a well known criminal in the hand , he is found to be in possession of a gun linked to 19 other crimes

the gun link to the other crimes made big news , the mum shooting him , did not

but home invasions declined after this date , whilst drive by shootings have increased ..

and it aint legal gun owners doing it

See if we can spot the states with the least stringent gun controls, and the most. You'll notice that several states have lower murder rates than Canada, and a couple have lower murder rates than even Australia. So which states are they...?

well, since washinton dc is not a state and it was taken out of the equation, I wonder how high our murder rate per 100k would be then.

Australians never had a constitutional right to arms.

Australia was a prison colony, and did not start out as the 13 English colonies we did, and never revolted and so never had any RIGHTS... So far as i know they still have no Rights....

And you nor the US Govt can take anyone's Rights..

You can try, but you could die trying..

In stead of making a poor attempt to rationalize the loss of our Rights which isn't going to happen, why not debate what to do with mental defectives who commit these crimes instead.

That would make better sense.

No matter how many laws you make, no matter what happens with guns, the problem will not stop until we deal with the mental defectives period...

You gun grabbers are arguing the wrong problem... And an argument you can't win.

Owning a gun shouldn't be illegal because owning a gun is done without causing any harm to any other person. Crimes are crimes because of the harm they cause. Owning a gun causes no one harm. Why do you want to criminalize an act that harms no one?

Strange that dear boy when it came to a war between those who wanted to keep slavery and those who did not the armed forces on BOTH sides were used.
A piece of paper will not stop the Marines, but it will be popcorn time for the rest of us.
