Serious questions here:

Are we really safer, if we are all packing guns? Please provide real evidence, not just opinion.

Also, if everyone is carrying, how do you discern between good and bad guys? (Take the Aurora theater shooting for example).

Do you really think you stand a chance against government Tanks/F22's and artillery with your handguns and rifles?

Please read this VERY BORING BOOK by a criminology professor on the topic...you can tell it's honest because it is so boring. No sensationalism, no fat millionaire with Halliburton stocks mutilating interviews (read: Michael Moore) just the facts.

I keep asking this and get no answers...Do you really think that the combined Armed forces of this country the vast majority who come from predominantly conservative, gun owning backgrounds are going to obey a unlawful order and kick in the door of their own parents and grandparents house to confiscate weapons?

The Second Amendment is a guarantee by the Constitution.

Enough said.

All the hand wringing and moaning will not change that.

Oh but that won't stop them from continually trying.

Nancy Lanza bought into the whole NRA/gun lovers BS. She had an arsenal in her house so that she would be "safe." Look how well that worked out for her.

We should ban everything that might harm someone right? McVeigh bought fertilizer legally, correct? Realize that there is sick and wrong people out there and sometimes they arent caught until they make headlines

Good questions OP. I've asked the same myself. For example, wasn't there an assault weapons ban from 94-04 in this country? If our gov't is so ready to oppress us, why didn't they do it then?

@sol11: Not enough said. Our Constitution is not a static, dead item. It's a living document that demands constant introspection from the people.

I guess "Gun Lover" or "Gun Nut" is the new favorite derogatory terms?

Are you safer without them? The fact of the matter is there is lot of guns in this country and that is just a fact and will remian a fact even f you tried to confiscate every gun.

I guess the first clue might be someone pulling out a gun and starts shooting up the theater.

Serious questions? If we want to be serious the chances of an armed civilian uprising in this country is very unlikely and lot of that is due to the fact we can. Having said that hypothetically speaking even if it were to come to that who says it's going to be the civilians that are going to be fighting the tanks and the f-22's? If i had to guess a Schwarzkopf, Powell, or a Petraeus isn't going to turn their sights on the civilians nor would the people under their command.

There is no evidence that countries that have banned guns, suddenly have lower crime rates, or even murder rates. When Britain banned guns, its murder rate went up. And this is during a time where the murder rate in the United States was going down(and still is going down).

Culture of violence: Gun crime goes up by 89% in a decade | Mail Online

If you take every country in Europe which effectively bans guns, and every country in Europe that allows guns. The countries in Europe that have legal guns have lower murder rates on average than the countries in Europe that have banned guns. Mexico bans guns, it has a murder rate more than four times higher than the United States.

Whites in the United States are nearly twice as likely as blacks to own a gun. Yet whites are 1/6th as likely as blacks to kill someone.

Harvard Study: Gun Control Is Counterproductive | The American Civil Rights Union

But overall, there isn't any true evidence on either side that proves whether or not guns cause or reduce crime. The most effective crime stopper, is really, more cops, and longer prison sentences.

In my own opinion, I don't think guns reduce murder rates(and may even raise murder rates slightly). But I think guns reduce the rates of other crimes. Especially robberies and burglaries. But also assaults and rapes.

Britains murder rate was always much lower than the United States. But in more recent years, its other crime rates have nearly doubled.

UK is violent crime capital of Europe - Telegraph

There are about 6.5 million crimes in the UK every year. There are 11.8 million crimes in the United States. The UK has a population of 62 million, the United States has a population of 312 million. That makes roughly one crime for every 10 people in the UK. And about one crime for every 26.5 people in the United States.
