I don't think that is what conservatives believe.

I think what conservatives believe is that no proposed gun legislation would eliminate mass killings nor reduce the deaths from them.

The facts are that mass shootings are rare. Schools are safer than ever. Even with more than 300,000,000 guns owned by people not in the military or law enforcement.

Actually, mass shootings WERE rare. All that changed in 1990 when Democrats enacted "gun free zones." Since 1990 mass shooting are becoming more and more commonplace.

I think the mass-shooting phenomenon is mostly copycat-driven, much like serial killers. There were few if any of either breed in the first half of the 20th century US, but in the second half of the 20th century both ilks took flight and gradually grew. I don't think either are primarily a consequence of pro-gun or anti-gun legislation. I do agree that the 'gun free zones' are a dumb idea.

Every attempted gun ban has been prefaced with these words; "common-sense".

So when I see those trigger words, I immediately go against any and all attempted restrictions on firearm ownership.

I find it very interesting that there is so much angst about "assault weapons" (whatever definition is desired), but NOBODY has a word to say about the fact that many of the kids at that school were packed into a room so the shooter could stand in the door and SHOOT THEM ALL with no trouble!
Nobody seems to care about that. I wonder why.
In fact, many people seem to think the teacher did the RIGHT THING by packing those kids in there in a heap!
IMO, it worked well for the shooter, but not so well for the teacher or the kids!
Gun Free Zone, all the "targets" packed into a small room, it just doesn't get any better than that for a mentally ill killer!

America has the highest rate of incarceration and the fifth highest number of state funded executions (behind CHINA, IRAN, SAUDI ARABIA, and IRAQ) IN THE WORLD. America has a violence problem caused by a .small demographic of violent people. Trying to blame the acts of violence on an object is just as stupid as believing that if not for guns, the Son Of Sam AKA Serial Killer David Berkowitz and Christopher Peterson would have never harmed a sole.
