You've pretty much hit the nail right on the head. Conservatives like to pride themselves on being fiscally responsible, but their levels of military spending are always quite high! American imperialism is exempt from their proposed cuts I guess lol.

They do what the party tells them to do so they can continue to receive logistical and financial support from the DNC & RNC to help them get re-elected. They value money and power over doing what's right for the country. To help get them re-elected, they bribe voters with money and services (social welfare programs). They worry more about what the press will say about them than about doing what is right for the country. Doing what's right isn't always easy to do. People will suffer in some way because you'll be making it harder for some by doing what's right. When the first stock market crashed back in the 1920s, instead of taking action, the President refused to act and the market made it's own corrections and began recovering naturally. The more the government gets involved, the worse things get. There's a reason why the framers of the Constitution specifically spelled out the duties and responsibilities of the government. It was to put limits on the government to prevent tyranny. Basically our nation's Congress has wiped their backside with the Constitution.
You're exactly right, SailorDave! Every time a politician prides themselves on having a 97 percent Conservative voting record, for example, it does make me cringe! I'm definitely with you that calling a politician a 'party man' should still be considered an insult!

When a democrat is in office all the conservatives claim the country is going down the drain. When a republican is in office all the liberals claim the the country is going down. It never ends. If Mitt Romney were president I would be living the exact same life, doing the exact same things I'm doing with Obama in office, and most likely so would you. The biggest problem with our country is that everyone complains about everything (myself included) as evident with these threads. It seems very seldomly do people actually think logically about an issue and come to a conclusion. So to answer the question "is liberalism destroying America?" Well, this question is irrelevant when geared to a conservative because it doesn't matter how great the country becomes with a liberal in office it will always be going "down the drain" and vice - versa. If somehow every person was living the American dream by the time Obamas out of office a conservative would still say "Obama was a horrible president" and same with a republican in office.

This is way more complicated than simply saying liberalism even though it is part of it.

As someone who reached voting age in the 1970s I see lots of great things that have happened, but mixed in with it is above all a growth in "what's best for me behavior" causing way too many people to not take responsibility (and blame) for the consequences of their own behavior.

"I borrowed a lot of money to get that liberal arts degree and it is unfair that I have to pay it back now that I'm working at Starbucks."

"My business (let's say automaker) really f-ed up the last twenty years and Congress you need to save me!"

"Our contract says you owe all of us x amount of money. I don't care if you are broke and the company is going out of business. We need to be paid now."

"I really want that house even though I can't afford it."

"What do you mean my kid is disruptive in class and has a foul mouth? It's not his fault or mine."

"Damn I missed my exit. I'm going to u-turn in the middle of the road here."

"The free market is perfect. Large banks will never do anything unethical."

"New Jersey Shores is quality entertainment."

Classical liberalism is not about letting the weak die or creating a class of weak-minded people born to suffer & die. It is about responsibility & sensible self-affirming principles benefitting oneself & by extension one's community. The toil of modern liberal 'progressivism' is to have on hand sufferers and self-made victims, they need & desire a class of people that can be pointed too as examples of why more funding for more programs is always necessary to care for their poor mis-begotten selves. Were these people classically liberal, they would seek ways to enlighten themselves without hand-outs provided merely for sustenance. Really, there is nothing liberal about modern 'liberalism'; it is socialism with a twist of fuedalistic nationalism invoking vassalage wearing a new dress and hairstyle to look contemporaneous & chic.

Malthus was not an emotional mathematician. What he propagated was obvious: Too many people exponentially reproducing is not a good thing. We see this today especially with health-applied technology increasing life-spans and allowing for more to be born as a natural by-product of human behaviour and to survive. What else other than eugenics could socialists demand? State-sponsored caretaking of its natural constituency paid for by producers & traditional earners (people with jobs, to the christian-fixated).

People like FDR, Clinton, etc. are examples of socialist-minded capitalists, though lately these types tend toward socialist-minded corporatism from about the late 1970's, as behooves those who represent the ruling kind. It is a lucrative business this caring for those who don't care enough about themselves, plus they allow undue control sets from governmental entanglement in too many aspect's in everyone's lives. Only a dedicated socialist would find that appealing, this usurping of individuality to benefit miserably (minimally) the totality. If the liberal 'progressive' was honest about their supposed hatred of greedy graft, they would attack corporatism with everything they have but not desire government intrusion as a guaranteed safety mechanism, but they don't really no matter their bluster. They need free stuff to go along with the rest of this feudalistic fantasy of having universal benefits & civic behavioural regulations for the sake of enduring their dull drudgery spent in relative poverty enhanced by their affluent-appearing slavery to the financial elite. Secretly, they like it like this. It's comforting...

Human behaviour creates miserable socio-political convolutions usually applied in societies as a coping mechanism. The resource controllers know it & profit by it & use these systems to maintain control over their minions. But it is the lesser of so many evils so it is accepted, naturally.

Same here man. I actually can't stand social conservatives the most. Liberals can be annoying too but they do have certain valid points.

Rep! It's a who can outspend the other one situation. The people that scream "They are Liberal" or "They are a Conservative" in a dergotory sense are all full of crap. There are very few people that are at the extreme of either group and vast majority of the population is closer to the middle.

It is true that most of the so-called conservatives, here on CD and in the nation broadly, who rant, rave and rail against "liberals" are actually themselves liberals. However, I can't agree that what is called "liberalism" is actually socialism; the main political spectrum in this country begins with liberalism on the left and ends with liberalism on the right. No less a star in the right-wing firmament than that Austrian nobleman Friedrich von Hayek insisted that his views were liberal. The only real distinction is how committed the Republican liberal is to laissez-faire libertarianism, and how committed the Democratic liberal is to Keynesian interventionism.

Is "liberalism" really what is destroying America to you "neo-Conservatives?" Or is it really something else . .

Well, I am certainly NOT a neo-conservative, todays conservatives(republicans) are too much like todays liberals in my mind, but I believe modern-day liberalism (60s onward) has A LOT of culpability when it comes to revising and destroying Americas fabric, values, morality etc.
