How about this for an idea?

Make all Welfare claimants be servants for those earning above 80k/year.

this would give them all some pride and help the economy out.

Unemployed welfare people would have to work full-time at the local mansions but people working at places such as Wallmart would only need to serve part-time - say at the weekends cleaning the toilets or something similar.

does anyone think this is the way forward?

As I've suspected, many of the fringe right fantasize about replacing welfare with slavery.

It's a reasonable idea because the servants would free up the rich and thus keep the economy ticking over.

ie: the welfare servants can free up time for the rich to create more jobs.

this will also help to reduce crime rates, and instill a sense of honour, respect and purpose in the lower orders

80K/year would be wealthy depending on where they lived.

It's not 'Mansion' wealthy, but it's a respectable living higher than the mean household wages in many areas of North America.

Back to the original point: I suspect this is a joke, but in case it isn't, forcing welfare recipients to work as cleaners demeans both the position and the welfare recipient. It takes away from paying positions that are created by someone wanting to spend less time on cleaning and more on other things, so they are willing to part with their hard earned money to hire someone else. It also removes freedom from the man who owns that house, forcing them to endure someone doing a position because they are obligated and not because they want to be there.

Being a professional cleaner is a respectable job. I have a tremendous amount of personal respect for those who do that job. It is not a job that simply anyone could do: It takes patience, an eye for detail and a solid work ethic.

It's what they do in the country you live in.
You know, a bastion of human trafficking.

Sounds good in theory, but not everyone is in the same position to do that kind of work. Some people may have health issues that prevent them from that kind of work, but they are denied disability because the system sometimes doesn't award people who actually do need it. I can't do certain jobs because of the health of my leg, but I am denied disability. It's been really hard for me to find work outside of delivery service.
