a lot more, but that isn't the subject of this thread..you are talking apples and oranges..do you realize some of those working to defend our country have to depend on welfare to make ends meet, maybe you would like their salaries cut even more..?? 4% of GDP....right in line with the rest of the worlds 2-6% of gdp

current defense budget is 670 billion....which is less tha ss....less than medicare/medicaid........

15% of federal income tax goes to welfare programs according to Savoir Faire, who has yet to cite the source for this information.

Where the hell did you get 15% of GDP?

Because in 2011, total taxes collected by the federal government was 2.3 trillion, 15% of that is 345 billion dollars.

Doesn't include medicare or medicaid though.
