And what about the freedom of a 6 year old to go to school without fear of being shot dead 11 times alongside 19 of his/her classmates?
Is everyone in this country not entitled to "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" first and foremost... as they are unalienable rights and not those set up by a government?
Last time I checked the preamble to the constitution states it was written to "insure domestic Tranquility". I have a hard time believing our fore fathers envisioned semi-auto assault weapons with 30-100 round magazines as necessary to insure domestic tranquility.
Then take some responsibility for the security of the schools and pony up the funding for armed security.
The founders intended the people to be armed equally as well as the government's soldiers. Even with a semi-auto we're at a disadvantage due to the unconstitutional ban on full auto guns dating to 1986.
what safety standards would you suggest for guns that are not going to severely impact their usability and cost?
Now we're getting somewhere. I would start with outlawing high capacity magazines... i.e. set a limit on magazine capacity. I think you'd agree that outlawing them would neither impact the usability or cost of guns.
Didn't I explicit list "safety standards"... as in federal motor vehicle safety standards that have led to many of those advancements in crash technology?

It would certainly impact the usability of guns designed to function with standard cap magazines.

During the previuos ban the only thing the magazine limit did was increase the cost of those in existence. I was able to purchase a Sig Sauer similar to the one used in this massacre and 4 magazines that held 15 rounds each.

Contrary to the mainstream media(MSM) narrative of the NRA 'dying' or losing power and relevance, membership has seen a surge in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting.
Even I, a devoted NRA member, am staggered at the numbers. 8,000 a day times 6 days since the shooting is 48,000. Even with margin of error these are impressive numbers.
Discuss.
LOL it's like the Chick-Fil-A effect- every time liberals try to legislate our behavior or chip away at our rights Americans fight back the only way they can by showing support for the demonized business the Democrats' have put in their crosshairs.
I left the NRA for personal reasons, I feel they dont support all gun owners enough. But if it will make it clear to politicians I will rejoin. also I will join GOA.
Not only that, one 1959 car does not represent all 1959 cars. For example, the Imperial had a much stronger frame than a '59 Chevy. And we don't even know what condition that '59 Chevy was in.
Anyone, of the two cars, I would definitely want to own/drive the '59 Chevy over the late-model, Japanese lookalike car. A '59 Chevy with a tri-power 348-cu-in V-8 engine (rated at 335 horsepower) would be nice to have.
