OK, so you want to live in a totalitarian dictatorship. I guess you think that will be a better life. I disagree.
A better life for a child.
And the question didn't posit that everyone else gave up their rights.
As I said before, this is not a question about banning guns or cars or the right to vote. It's about what kind of a person you are. But you folks keep whiffing it.
would you give up your freedom even if it costed you your life for 1 child?
Yes, I would give up my freedom and my life for a child. I've already had a chance to do some living at least. Clearly those teachers at Sandy Hook felt the same way. Not a radical point of view unless you're, um, a certain kind of person.
To repeat, this is not a question about giving up everyone's freedoms or everyone's lives. The OP did not ask that.

Keep trying.
then in answer to my question, you are a person of principle, and I salute you for it.

But in post 49, the OP says,

the question is if a ban on them would stop someone from getting a semi auto and thus saved one kids life.
OR, you know, irresponsible gun owners who allow their disturbed children to have access to their guns.
How about that one? Do you feel that gun ownership carries with it a certain responsibility?
Yes, gun ownership does carry a lot of responsibility. My guns are locked up in a very heavy safe, even if I had children in the house who are not mentally disturbed. I also grew up around guns and I knew not to handle any of my father's guns unless he was with me.
There are a ton of starving kids around the world. Put your money where your mouth is and feed them. You shouldn't have any extra spending money, it should be all going to feeding kids.

Nice deflection, and irrelevant.
You have no idea where my money goes. Certainly not to collecting ph****c substitutes.
Does my position bother you? Is that why you're attacking me?
