While the emotionally-charged anti-gun bid is accepted by many Americans and congressional lawmakers still coming to grips with the Sandy Hook killings, the CRS report makes the case that even without the tougher weapons rules, gun deaths are plummeting as gun sales are surging, including those of semiautomatic pistols and rifles. Gun advocates are seizing on the report to help brake new gun-control legislation which they claim would do nothing to stop crime.
Consider gun ownership. "Per capita," said CRS, "the civilian gun stock has roughly doubled since 1968, from one gun per every two persons to one gun per person."
Then look at gun deaths. CRS found that in the last decade, from 1993 to 2011, gun-related murders have been cut in half. In 1993, there were 17,073 gun killings, for a rate of 6.6 per 100,000 people. Last year that was cut to 9,903 murders for a rate of 3.2 per 100,000. Over the past decade, suicides by guns have far outnumbered murders.

This has nothing to do with the sale of guns and everything to do with the demise of the crack era and better policing tactics in major cities where these murders were happening. Everyone knows this. NYC had 2,245 murders in 1991 and down to 536 in 2010. Go look up why those murders went down, it's not because more drug dealers had guns.
Suicides are such a misnomer for guns, people who wish to kill themselves will do so regardless of the presence of a firearm. Homicides are at around 10,000, many of which are gang violence and drug related. Unintentional shootings are a rarity comparably, but I believe that trend is going down.
Might want to quote a more moderate source, not one dedicated to removing guns.
And they've also plummeted as video games have gotten more violent... So therefore, violent video games must also play a role in a lower homicide rate...

The suggestion here is not that gun ownership had anything to do with the decrease in crime. That's you reading into the OP. The point is that there's little evidence to suggest that gun control is necessary. We have more guns than ever, and fewer killings. The math and justification for increased control just does not compute.
Accidental shootings aren't necessarily a form of crime or gun violence. But I can see why you would want to include suicides and accidental shootings to bolster your numbers. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside as you push for gun control. It makes you feel like you're doing something worthwhile. Meanwhile. the math just doesn't compute. Unfortunately for you, logic will prevail. Not knee jerk reactionaries pushing fuzzy math.
There is nothing good about the gun trade. Guns have always been an annoyance in this country but now they have become a major issue. It's time to severely curtail the gun business.
