Keep in mind, the NRA is not a group that advocates for gun owners. The NRA is a group that advocates for gun manufacturers. No politician or gun control group is calling for the mass confiscation of firearms. Most of the measures proposed gun control measures would have zero effect on legitimate gun owners. However, even mild gun control laws could hurt the bottom lines of gun manufacturers. That is why their lobby, the NRA, spread such nonsense. Sadly, a lot of gun owners are too blind to see they're being used...
As long as the criminals in congress, keep listening to the criminal parents, defending their criminal children ,it is enevitable that they will push to remove guns from those that might stand up against criminals, with guns, because the police won't do it.
