In watching this whole fiscal cliff drama, one thing has become obvious to me and that is that "Speaker" Boehner is not really in charge of the House. I don't know why our President waste time "negotiating" with somebody that cannot seal the deal. It reminds me of the first, and ONLY time, I went to buy a car at a car dealership. I wanted a Ford F-150 and the salesman came out and greeted me and told me he would give me a good deal on the truck. So I made an offer and he sat me down in his office and went away for about 20 minutes and came back and said "well I want to give you this deal but my Sales Manager says I can't do it for that". So I made another offer and he went away for another 30 minutes and came back and said "well I am really fighting for you with my manager but the only way he will OK this is if you finance through us". I was going to get a loan on good terms from my credit union and I did not want to use the dealer's finance. So I upped the price offer and again he went away for 30 minutes to fight with his manager over it. After about 3 hours of this crap, I finally said "WHY in the hell am I dealing with you when it is quite obvious that you cannot make a deal?" And I left. It is obvious that John Boehner is like that salesman. He cannot make a deal because he cannot boss the rest of the house into following him.

I agree but I think he should probably remain Speaker. I doubt anybody else could do better. I don't think it is so much a situation of him being unable to do the job as it is that the job is simply undoable. Congress is simply too divided.

Well that salesman is just an agent of the owners. The shareholders. The Speaker is an agent of the House who are agents of the people. The people elect representatives locally to represent them nationally.

The answer to your dilemma is to deal directly with the owner and pay cash. It's a little harder, metaphorically speaking, when there are 300 million owners.

Merry Christmas.

I hear what you are saying. The process seems very undignified and unbecoming.

However, I have learned that in life that negotiation is a big part of resolving issues. There is give and take in politics.

More like a salesman that's been used.

The GOP House as of now = Happydale Sanitarium in the movie "Arsenic and Old Lace".

He cannot boss the rest of the house and he cannot be bossed by the White House.

Yeah - I don't think Boehner sees it that way.
