There is no justifiable reason to have large kitchen knives at home. With the wide availablity of pre-prepared microwave meals there simply isn't a reason to cut anything. Hobby cooks need to back off and give up their hobby for the sake of society.

The researchers said there was no reason for long pointed knives to be publicly available at all.
They consulted 10 top chefs from around the UK, and found such knives have little practical value in the kitchen.
None of the chefs felt such knives were essential, since the point of a short blade was just as useful when a sharp end was needed.
As someone that cooks a lot I would have to disagree, I use the point on a knife quite a bit.

Even more interesting there is laws there prohibiting possessing a knife in public unless you can show reason to have it.

Seems the UK has a serious knife violence problem despite laws against using a knife in crime.

I guess, guns are deemed less lethal and dangerous.

We need to be very careful about the Chef's opinion as they would be the beneficiaries of such legislation. If you want a a parallel here in the US it wouldn't suprise me if a lot of gun shop owners supported gun laws that are going to financially benefit them in the long run.

Those who should be "listened to" are those who provide a position that is logically reasoned (if subjective in nature) or validated (if objective in nature).
