Doesnt Japan have the death penalty and low murder rates...

The difference is in Japan (and to an extent Norway) society is self policing. Shame still exists, honour still exists and society is somewhat cohesive, with community spirit. You see it here in england too. When a little girl went missing in rural wales, the community came together and looked for her for weeks. In selfish London, no one gives a damn when a child goes missing.

American society is corrupt, balkanized and selfish. No one gives a damn about what family honour means.

I'm sorry but right wing views on punishment are not only barbaric, they don't work.
Yea, Japan are such a docile, domesticated bunch aren't they?

Maybe it's because they learned to fall in line after "barbaric, right wing ideology" laid the nuclear smack down on them less than 65 years ago.

Besides, the Japanese are much happier killing themselves than anybody else. A value many people here should subscribe to.

Wasn't aware Japan carries the death penalty. Very good.

This wont happen, sorry. This guy will almost certainly spend the remainder of his life in prison. This is far and away the worst tragedy to happen in Norway and if they released the guy, someone would probably take the law into their own hands and off him.

I'd take the Norwegian criminal-justice system over ours in a heartbeat. I think penal systems should be focused on rehabilitation.

It's very rare and only given out for two types of crimes. In the past 4 years they have executed less than 16 people in the entire country

Oh here we go. Poster is 90 years old and is still holding a grudge against the Japanese and thinks 1960 segregation had it's good points. The most peaceful people on Earth...LOL They can't teach us anything. Let's all do what Mississippi Republicans recommend. That's such an awesome GOP laboratory LOL

Time IS rehabilitation. Old men commit a lot less crime than young men. dont release then till theyre 60 and watch crime plummet.
