See... this agreeing to disagree... doesn't work in practice does it. So tell you what. Why don't we just go for it. You and your guns against the overwhelming tide of Americans that are sick of losing their loved ones in this ongoing carnage called Civil Society. We're going off the Fiscal Cliff because of ideological differences, labor negotiations are as likely to result in a lockout as much as a strike these days, and gun rights advocates claim that nothing needs to be done about 100 dying every day from guns. I think something like 2 or 3 people a day die from AIDS. In the whole world! If AIDS were killing 100 people a day in the United States alone, it would be causing National Unrest. The CDC would be in the panic to end all panics. The country would be on lockdown. No one in, no one out. Period. The best minds in the world would be working 24 hours a day to find a cure! So... gun lover, tell me again how this isn't your problem. You make it your problem when you venture forth an opinion one way or another.

Why isn't it my problem? Because I'm not some wacko loon who feels the need to go into a public place and commit mass murder. I do however support the right to protect myself, and my family if need be. All of the gun bans in the world will NOT get the guns out of the hands of criminals, who time and again show that they have no value for their own life or the lives of others! Bans work really well, don't they? It has worked really well with the "war on drugs" hasn't it? People who want illegal drugs, will still get them!
Furthermore, what part of "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall NOT be infringed?" I personally do not give a F*** about what Europe is doing, or what some other socialist wanna-be utopia is doing! We aren't Europe, nor do I want to be like Europe! We broke away from them, because we no longer wanted to be ruled by a King, in which we're all serfs and give the government the final say over our lives! Take away the 2nd Amendment, and you might as well get rid of the 1st, the 4th, and the 5th! Yes, it's supposed to be a civilized society. Yes, we're supposed to have evolved, but that ain't real world! Unfortunately there are bad people in the world, and quite frankly I like the option of being able to defend myself, and my family. Be careful what you wish for... I know to you big government types, freedom is a b*** ain't it? Too bad!
Like the other poster said, stand at least 10 feet in back of the platform. Why don't they have a dotted line? Surprise the ambulance chasers haven't tried to sue the New York MTA for this...oh wait, very hard to sue government.

There is a yellow line. I guess you probably don't live in NYC. In many stations "10 feet in back of the platform" would put you...well...at the edge of the other side of the platform.

Yeah.....in many cases the platforms are pretty narrow. I even pay special attention to when i'm simply walking on those types of platform....a mere trip and stumble could put me down on the tracks in an instant, especially when dodging and weaving around other people.
I ride the train/subway every day. While many people are sucked into their Iphones/Ipads/Tablets, i'm making an assessment of my surroundings and keeping an eye on the hoodlums. I think it's a pretty good strategy considering the alternative.....which to my knowledge has not included pushing people off the platform....but snatch-and-run theft. Better safe than sorry.
Good for you. I raised my daughter from the time she was small to always be aware of her surroundings, to take note of the people near her, and to always know where the exits are anyplace she goes.
She's now 21, and she spent one year in college in Manhattan before she transferred elsewhere (but still loves the city). She said to me recently, "You know how you always told me to always be aware of my surroundings? Well, it amazes me how many people AREN'T."
