How does asking for fiscal responsibity from elected officials constitute wrecking the economy

I could see blame for spending too much, I could see blame for not having a budget as required for 4 years, I could see blame for inattention to the fiscal side of the economy.

But asking for elected officials to live within the means of the country and budget in a thoughtful and thrifty manner and establish a strict budget that doesen't exceed the amount of money the government takes in could hardly be seen as irresponsible.

Perhaps it will take the stonewalling of the senate and harry reid to send us over the cliff so we have to put together an actual working economy from the wreckage.

Balnce the budget by fixing the economy. What a concept.

How is going back to the tax rates we had under Clinton going to wreck the economy?

Actually, I'm glad for it. At least will be paying our bills.

The right can do what ever they want.....in about a month Obama needs their approval for more borrowing, if they say no....there is virtually HALF of what is needed to simply turn the lights on in the country for only one day.

Thats what Obama is up against. Its his show...if Obama does not sign what the right want...the lights go out in one month. The right are determined to balance and stop the borrowing....the lights will go out if Obama does not shape up and it is all his fault, don't kid yourself...

Of all the people Obama should be speaking to, and I hope some of his people are reading these forums as is suspected...Obama would do well to ask Art Laffer if he has time for his incredibly wise guidance. He's the best the country has in this moment.

They are doing what they ran on to get elected.
What, do you want them to 180 from the platform they ran on, to appease the Progressives in both parties.

You make it sound as if there are 3 parties not two, in both houses of Congress, not just the two Progressive parties, Democrat and Republican, but a total needed third party.

Thanks for well informed post. It was full of information and I learned so much. Put down the pipe with the blue grass in it for a few hours, then post.

If John Boehner sees the writing on the wall....well.....
The writing on the wall says don't rely on the economic imbeciles in Congress who ruined the economy and who were wrong about how bailouts would help.

In other words, hold the economy hostage to right-wing ideology.

It wouldn't if we went back to Clinton era spending. Which was about half of what it is now.
