"Calls for" is probably too ambiguous a phrase. The constitution's authors envisioned an active government capable of making decisions and effecting policy therefrom - if they had wanted a government incapable of action, they would have stuck with the first constitution.

On the other hand, "doing nothing" is how the constitution now functions. The question is how long we can go on failing to make necessary repairs before the roof falls in.

They've been shrinking for several years. I'm evidence of that. When they've gotten so far out of bounds that they lose the support of an old white guy like me, then they've just about left the stadium altogether.

The GOP has gotten everything wrong for the past decade. The discouraging part is that they've learned nothing from it. They keep getting wronger and wronger.
Could this trend be the result of the big money's self serving agenda for more and more money???

If it is big money then who represents the common conservative folk's that are not independent's nor Democrats??

Has our two party system been perverted into a one party system that no longer represents to people??

What will the people do about this perversion??

It cant be about equal rights either, otherwise there would be a federal push for bigamy/polygamy to be legalized across the nation. There isnt. I dont even think it can be considered a human right either, given only people above a certain age would be entitled to it.

Im generally in favour of what the gay lobby has achieved so far. But they've lost their minds on this issue.
Marriage is a human right. It does NOT have to be between opposite genders, although some states have legislated that it must be. These laws will eventually be rescinded. This covers the issue quite well:

' When politicians say they support civil unions but not marriage for people of the same sex, what do they mean? We find three main differences between civil unions and marriage as it's traditionally viewed:
 • The right to federal benefits. States that allow some type of same-sex union are able to grant only state rights. The Defense of Marriage Act passed in 1996 prohibits same-sex couples from receiving federal marriage rights and benefits.
 • Portability. Because civil unions are not recognized by all states, such agreements are not always valid when couples cross state lines.
 • Terminology. "Marriage" is a term that conveys societal and cultural meaning, important to both gay rights activists and those who don't believe gays should marry.'

FactCheck.org: What Is a Civil Union?

I don't know what the laws are in the UK, but I can't see any logical rationale for opposing the granting of equal rights re. marriage to homosexuals.

What I'm doing is voting against every Republican for every office on every ballot. Which means I don't vote straight ticket Democratic, because in Texas there are some office where there's no Dem candidate, but there generally are some minor party candidates for those offices. I'll continue to do this until the GOP regains their sanity. Which may not occur in my lifetime.

They have to get their hands slapped. Hard.

The GOP is in process of committing political suicide by refusing to extend the tax cuts for the middle class.

They don't consider the middle class part of their constituency these days.

Well, they are not going to win seats in Congress with just 1% of the nation voting for them.

The Republicans' difficulties can be traced to a conflict between the Religious Right and a more-secular, libertarian component, (which has the option of a capital 'L' -- that is, of running independent of the GOP) at any time. That is the fundamental split within conservative ranks, but both remain stronggly opposed to a "progressive" or (pseudo-)Liberal ideology built entirely upon centralization of Federal power, and willing to weaken an independent Juciaray by any means in order to impose it.

WE play defense much better than offense .. and we will when the time comes.

Default Bush aide: 'GOP is shrinking daily

And they'll keep on shrinking as long as they cater to the weirdo religious fruitcakes.
