And I can throw out Sweden and Denmark and all that, but what can the right-wingers throw out as an example of the "untethered free market" actually working? Laizzes faire economics are like communism: THEY JUST DON'T WORK.

No what I am saying is that we cannot be like Denmark....because they are culturally homogeneous, unlike us. The reason we are failing is largely in part to multiculturalism. It's become a tool for the state. It's kind of hard to divide people systematically along racial/cultural lines when there are none. Not to mention people are simply more tolerant... but that is secondary.

not so sure what it's like in Brazil, but surely a lot poorer than the US.

progress is being made there perhaps, but how far will it go?

do they have Welfare, Unions, freedom, decent min wage etc..?

anyway, my point with SU was supposedly to support the Denmark idea - ie: that Socialism CAN work on a large school (albeit, not necessarily the Soviet model)

Wall Street is necessary, because markets are necessary, but they should have no business governing. Government is for the citizenry, not for private entities (read, none-people) like corporations, ESPECIALLY "DEFENSE" CORPORATIONS. As "another liberal" once said:

" In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together"

-Republican President Eisenhower

So Brazil, one of the fastest growing economies on Earth with a rapidly falling poverty rate, is a "culturally homogeneous society"?

So how about some short-and-sweet "enlightenment" for those of us who think that they are criminally negligent with the almost wholly imaginary numbers they manipulate the rest of the economy with, the tactics they use to cripple the REAL job creators (the ones who WANT to be millionaires!), and the roughshod way they eviscerate every money pool the nation has ever built? Why shouldn't shysters be 'de-coupled' from the government machine, under which they can keep bonuses for ONE YEAR that eclipse what I would EARN with my sweat in ten lifetimes, no matter whether they are profitable or not?

Just FYI...because the Soviets CALLED it "Socialist" doesn't make it so. GERMANY is a socialist nation; take it from one who's LIVED there.

Brazil has 5 times more homicides than the US per 100,000 citizens.

Are you ready to "get like Brazil"???

The murder rate in Russia is equally huge and getting worse every day, and it is 81% white Russian. Can you explain that? Even more homogenously European than the USA, but over double the murder rate. (4% to 10%)

Are you saying Russia is an ideal place to live? LOL

I'm sorry, you're really losing me here......

EDIT: Russia also is not a socialist country like Denmark....Russia is a horrible comparison for anything, really.
