The other would remove obstacles created by current fire codes and permit the use of devices to hold open doors to one stairway per building.

The stairs are there already (fire exits) - just a matter of making them accessible. We long ago ninja'd the fire stairs in my office building, because it's faster to move a couple of floors up and down by stair than by waiting for the elevator - plus, in a fire, people know where the damn things are. And it's good for you, to boot.

Don't force people to use the stairs - but if they are there, make them available.
The purpose for the fire code requiring limited access to stairways is so that an isolated evacuation path is maintained in case of a fire in the building.

Mayor Bloomberg is endangering lives while fighting his war on obesity.

The battle on obesity is best fought by individuals the moment they eye a donut and say "NO!", not by risking needless deaths from smoke inhalation in a high-rise holocaust by eliminating fire door protection.

A lot of these ridiculous little laws are voted on in the legislature using the good old boy rules too. You vote for this to appease our base and we'll vote on that to appease yours. Or they need a couple votes to get something big through so agree to somebody elses nonsense. Heck it happens all the time in DC but we don't hear much about the ridiculous stuff that goes on in every state.

I'll have to find the photo, but when I lived in Japan I passed by a soda delivery vehicle that had a sign on the side showing 3 sizes of sodas. The gigantic size was named American size.

All cities/states have goofy laws on their books. Pick a state, any state.

Dumb Laws in Alabama. Crazy Alabama Laws. We have weird laws, strange laws, and just plain crazy laws!

Virginia has some goofy ones as well.

In Virginia, among other things, it is illegal to have sex with the lights on, to tickle a woman, for kids to go trick-or-treating on Halloween, and to hunt any animal on a Sunday with the exception of raccons(except that raccoon hunting must cease at 2 a.m).

In New Hampshire (Live Free or Die) we cannot buy whiskey anywhere but a state owned and operated store. I, along with what pass for liberals and almost all conservatives around here consider it a good idea because we eliminate distributor mark up and sell a huge amount of booze that is smuggled to the rest of New England. Our State Treasury is pleased.

There are idiotic laws pushed by both sides. For Republicans it is abortion and mandatory church attendance and for Democrats it is gun controls and soft drink sizes.

Eh, there are only a few of those laws you posted that I think are stupid. Specifically, the saggy pants law. But I'll bet the house that the conservatives are all about that one. Seriously, I can bet on that one.
The outdoor smoking ban is a bummer. I smoke & if I couldn't smoke while sitting outside having some drinks in the summer, I'd become a total hermit. I would never leave my house. Course, I suppose I could just quit, right, lol? As it is, I'm starting to feel uncomfortable about my own smoking when I'm out in public. I really don't like feeling that way.

Muddy cars, that's a strange one. Screeching tires, I can see how that could get totally annoying. I wish we had laws against modified Harley's here, birthplace of the Harley. I cannot STAND those loud a*s bikes, they're beyond irritating.

We had a legislator who was driving off the highway and he crashed into another vehicle in front of him. The car had the spinner rims on it and this guy claimed he thought the car was still moving because of the rims and that is why he hit him. So he staggers off and tries to get a bill passed banning the rims. Thankfully it was voted down but this is the type of nonsense these guys do all the time.

When enough people get together and do really stupid, selfish stuff, en masse, rules are made.

Libs have never been a fan of imbecility, whereas conserves embrace it. Thats why there are
people who like Florida, Texas, AZ, TN, etc--and thats why there are people who prefer NY, CT,
MA, VT etc . . . How many episodes of COPS do you see filmed in NY or VT?

Lots of dumb laws regardless of political bent.

I know I'd HATE to have to pay a guy to pump gas for me.

I mean we can point to crazy old laws that are never enforced etc. it's the ones that actually impact real life like liquor sales etc. that are of real consequence.
