The increase is announced, and if you missed the announcement or didn't prepare for the increase, that's your own fault.

If 2% is going to break the bank, then you are already in deep trouble. Personal responsibility. Plan for the future. Indeed, knowing what to expect is the key in forming a budget. We knew. Those of us who planned will be just fine, but again, someone who cannot afford 2% is already living way beyond his means.

Myself, the raise I received combined with our new, less expensive insurance premiums will leave me about $2200 on the plus side this year.
I'll also end up with more net pay in 2013, just like 2012 was better than 2011, 2011 better than 2010, etc.

Like you, I have always budgeted based on permanent tax rates per date temp rates were set to expire. I budgeted the year to come post cuts on the rates before the tax cuts existed.

And if you want to pay them, YOU pay them. DOUBLE your taxes, because I am a liar and an hapless idiot, who can't make this bill. Therefore, since you are good little socialist, you have no problem paying for the stingy me and others who don't want too pay, right? Of course you won't...
Why are so many people obsessed with welfare recipients? It appears you, and others like you, are not so much concerned with paying taxes as you are with the idea that some of that money is going to fund welfare programs. There are many more bills to be paid than that. Are you equally obsessed with those outlays?

Thank you. Of course, the outrage expressed in this thread has nothing to do with taxes and everything to do with politics.

I didn't blink an eyelash. My books are in order. Two-percent is not something I need to budget. And I only make $60k, while supporting my wife who is unable to work. Yet, I just bought a new Harley ($29k, total), all my bills are paid on time, and we still have money left over. I realize some people with large families or who live in areas with higher costs of living probably struggle, but the point remains; two percent is a tiny increase, and this increase was known in advance.

His real name is Mikey, and as we all know, "he hates everything."

If one has less margin of error than 2 percent, they better learn to budget better. They are one paycheck away from disaster. Too many toys? Too many vacations? Too expensive a choice of home, entertainment package, vehicle? Best examine all of them if 2 percent breaks your bank.

I have 2 vacations planned within 4 months; just went on 2 longer ones. I always map them out to insure my total liquidity after them is at minimum equal to where it is at the start of the year. In other words, I don't take a vacation I must charge. If I cannnot pay it off immediately, I don't go.

In order to do that, my other expenses must be far enough below my net income that 2 percent is a big "whoop de doo" to me.

Good for you, brother. Myself, I use the plastic quite often. I'm in no danger of defaulting, but I'd like to live like you do. Hold on...

..."Honey. Come here. I want you to read something."

Just kidding, of course. My baby comes first, credit cards or no credit cards.

I understand. I'm single, often invite a SO for trips, but I make the call as to whether I will even book the trip. Even with my self imposed rules, lack of time reduces trip quantity and length more than money. I do schedule around corp holidays to get more days overall on vacations. Good Friday & Memorial Day weekends are next up for these 2 trips, for that reason.

Yeah, I tried that one year. I absolutely abhor crowds. I live in a tourist area to begin with, holidays are not my choice for vacations anymore.

We ride the "Loneliest Road in America" every summer (Hwy 50 through Nevada.) Love it. Just me, my wife, the bike and the road. Our destination is Great Basin National Park, near the Utah border. Once you get out of the extended Reno area (east of Fallon), the total population of towns encountered along the entire highway is less than 6000. Love it to death. Some people find the desert to be ugly. I couldn't disagree more. Anyway, we're way off topic, but this has been the most pleasant conversation I've had here since I joined. Have a good one.

Nice talking to you. I assume you are in metro Phoenix. I went to Scottsdale at Thanksgiving, best college friend, and his family live there. I love that area (I like urban areas) , although I avoid it during the summer for obvious reasons.

I was temped to catch Spring training there as my friend works some of the radio broadcasts (off air stuff), but I refuse to pay 3x the Thanksgiving rate for the same hotel quality. While I adore his entire family, I like the privacy of a hotel, so would not want to stay at their house, or any relatives , either.
