Actually it is Diosdello Cabella who will take over (He heads the National Assembly) until an election takes place. Maduro (handpicked successor) will campain for the Chavista's but will need to be elected. This isn't to say Cabella falls far from the tree!

As far as south america goes, he's not THAT bad. Most of his anti-US schtick is just to distract the population and blame others for internal problems. And before anyone says I'm being unfair....it's a tactic that ALL politicians use.
Sean Penn probably has your same thought......yes what a kind man, all men should hope to grow up to be like Chavez one day.
