Time you grew up and put away your childish ideas.

Oh I sure don't care if you don't.... i am still waiting to be told who would enforce any such breech of law.

There would be no war, because for pro gun people there would be no one to fight...

Somehow I don't envision Chuck, Dianne, Nancy, Barbra, Biden and Obama, all in strapped on gear taking on 10 million gun owners in person.

I can imagine all of them hiding under a rug, but I don't really have to use a lot of imagination to accomplish that.

Other than them, there is just guys like you and with no guns, so there is no enforcement...

Whining, begging, and pleading are not gonna git it done... And so it isn't going to get done, but you can still whine, beg, and plead..

Like i said last night I am done with the thread pretty much until I get an answer.

I just thought i would be cute to that guy from South Afrika, and was surprised to see you listed as a powda puff gun owner

I would like to clear up, once and for all, this perception of the hoplophobes, that the shooting community wants civil war. Firstly, we understand the ramifications of such a conflict. There would be no charging o er the top, waving the flag. Rather, bitter cold nights spent spooning to stay warm with those lu ky enough to have a blanket. Putrifying wounds, rotting corpses, no medicines and rampant illness and infections, empty bellys and trying to cope with the deaths of lovex ones in the midst of it all.
Ammunition would run out quickly, weapons would break with no spare parts to fix them. Any enthusiasm for a "cause" would run out faster than the food and medicines. Some groups may be better prepared than others, but resupply would be an issue for everyone.
I may not be tbe most highly educated guy out here, however, a college degree ain't required to figure this out, and I am a pretty close approximation to the majority of the shooting community in the US. Education and intelligence are not the same thing, and my intelligence level is high enough to see this as a highly undesirable scenerio.
So, all you educated gun hating types, get off yer high horse! Your dealing with far more intelligent and moderate a foe than you seem to think.

The term "republic" means simply a state whose head is not a prince - that is, a republic is any state which is not a monarchy. The term "democracy" literally means "government by the people", a concept at the very core and foundation of the United States. But not all republics are democracies, and not all democracies are republican. The one term refers to the form, the other to the function.

The right wing makes this false distinction either because 1) it objects to a republican form of government and prefers a monarchy, 2) it objects to the function of democracy and prefers oligarchy or despotism, 3) it simply doesn't not understand the terminology and means something else entirely.
I cut the rest because it was complete mental masturbation.

Simple questions...

We're a democracy you claim, so from that which branches of government do we directly elect?

I'll give you a hint it's less that 2.

Of those that we elect, which has a number of "officers" that bears some relationship to a fraction of the population of the US?

So lets break this down, we elect Congress which consists of two houses. We do not elect a president (that's the electoral college, which may or may not vote along the lines of a plurality of the popular vote 2000 for the latest example), we do not elect Supreme Court Justices these are appointed by the Executive with advice and consent of the Senate.

Of Congress only one house contains members who bear some relationship to a fraction of the population, called the House of Representatives. The Senate contains members who represent the State they come from and they're equally distributed between the states, although Senators are now directly elected by their electorate this was originally selection by State government.

The House of Representatives and Senate hold equal power for passing legislation, one is a representation of the population, and one is a representation of the states. The House of Representatives may vote for a bill based upon a plurality of national popularity that is not supported by a plurality of state popularity, this then blocks the progression of that bill since it must pass both houses to become law
(this of course assumes that representatives and senators vote according to the will of their electorates). Then it must pass via Presidential assent, if vetoed it can only become law under a supermajority of 2/3 of the vote.

Since we only directly elect one third of the government, and only one half of that third direcly represents popular national vote. How can you claim we live in a true democracy? Since the government does not represent the national popular vote which a true democracy would by nature automatically represent?

No indeed while democracy is part of the United States system of government, in fact we have three specific forms, a democracy of popular vote, the house of representatives, a democracy of the State popularity, the Senate, and the Electoral college who vote according to a (in general) winner takes all state popularity vote with votes that relate to it's apportionment. However since a democracy represents the will of the people only one of those democracies has representation that actually represents the people, the other two represent the states. So while we have a democratic form of government we do not have a democracy since the actual amount of say you have and where varies according to your place of residence, you do not have an equal say in the decisions that affect your life (see electoral vote per capita, and population per representative).

Moreover, while we have three branches of Federal Government, we also have three branches of Government across the Republic itself, since there is State Government, and "The People". There are clear lines drawn as to the responsibilities of the Federal Government, and less clear lines drawn as to the responsibilities of the States Governments/People. The Federal Government itself is limited to enumerated powers, and has expressly limited power which includes the 10th Amendment.
