I'm pretty sure my car already has one, but the data isn't really accessible by anyone. It's my understanding that it records crash data to prevent lawsuits against the mfg, in which case a specialized tech would need to retrieve the data. You can always disconnect the battery though.

Well I have Onstar so if they wanted to they could track me where ever my vehicles are located. But that is my choice. You could always own a pre-computer car. Your choice.

Disconnecting the battery wont erase the data. A few states have statutes regarding the data recorders, but they could still be used against the owner of the car.

There are other changes in new cars that limit an owner's ability to control and alter their own vehicle. We pay extra for this, it is for our own good after all.
