Don't let anybody convince you this was common years ago, it wasn't. People had values, morals and pride.
It's not especially common today, either. But, as in the past, incidents like these did happen. The murder rate was higher in 1913 than it is today, a century later.

Oh it was common. It just wasn't reported, and victims were much more reluctant to come forward because of the "values" and "pride" of the day. It wasn't even until the 1970s that US states began recognizing domestic violence and spousal rape as a problem.

Nevertheless the fact remains that nearly one in five women say they have been raped or have experienced an attempted rape at some point, and one in four reported having been beaten by an intimate partner.

This is from the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, which started in 2010 with the support of the National Institute of Justice and the Department of Defense.

Be aware that having sex with someone who is mentally or physically incapable of giving consent is rape. If you have sex with a woman who is drugged, intoxicated, passed out, incapable of saying “No,” or unaware of what is happening around her, you may be guilty of rape.

The only thing that surprises me is that people are surprised that Jocks would behave this way. Was the girl a bit naive? Without a doubt. Was she behaving in a provacative manner maybe. As long as we continue to treat athletes as something special they will continue to assume that they are.
In Pa a few years ago we had a football team sodomize the JV team with pine cones and parents argued that it was blown out of proportion They then demanded that their sons be allowed to play after such misdeeds.
Athletes are not heroes because they play a sport.... Is it no surprise that so many pro athletes go on to be charged with rape among other sexually related crimes?
How can anyone be shocjed by this?????
Jocks love to target the smallest and the weakest. Why is this?
In my H.S if you were on the football team you had the get out of jail free card. No not ALL jocks are bad, but enough of them are and society constantly tries to justify their misdeeds.

If you can be held responsible of committing a crime blacked out why can't you be held responsible for this?

Oh I'm not.

While she may not be "legally" responsible she still is responsible. Unfortunately she will also bear the consequences of that mistake in judgment for the rest of her life...

Hopefully others will learn from her mistake and be able to avoid it...
