Everything I hear, I feel like you based everything about the Black population on being in the Pittsburgh area.
Leave them alone and let them wallow in their own self hatred and blame Obama for everything.

Some persons I have been responding to well, this is how I view it. I know there are people out there who basically see Blacks as basically no good. However, when I'm faced with such persons, I feel like I have to defend myself because I view as "if you are going to attack Blacks, you're basically attacking me too". I also know racial prejudice has alot to do with power and control. However, it doesn't make sense to me for someone to think that way.

Naw they need better teachers teaching in schools, they need a better curriculum for the teachers to teach kids. And get back to the real teaching of math and science, rather than training them to take a test.

^In addition to all of this, we need to teach people to think critically and to be more innovative.

Public schools don't want students to be able to think critically and to innovate. They want groupthink. Groupthink enhances social conditioning.

I do believe the schools hold a major responsibility for our children not performing better in math and sciences. First of all, any decent mathematician or scientist will make a very good living and unless they are 'called' by teaching, they will not choose such a low paid profession. Thus, most of our children's math and science teachers aren't the best at their own subject. Personally, I think that math and science teachers, especially secondary level, should be paid more than say an English teacher. The subject matter is more difficult and thus there should not be equal compensation.

As a person that is in the Math and Engineering world, I am constantly disgusted by how teachers talk about math and sciences to the children. I've sat in open house presentations, etc where the English teacher will speak about taking math and science as if it is something akin to getting a shot. If they act this way in front of parents, I suspect they do are even worse in front of our children. There seems to be a certain amount of pride amongst some of these teachers in their fervent dislike of math and science.

Ultimately, there is a systemic problem in our educational system that flat out discourages children to go into math and sciences. On top of that, rather than addressing these basic problems, the administrators have decided to move away from time tested methods to teach these courses and utilize more 'hands on' craft type projects to teach math. They don't make children memorize times tables anymore; they want the children to grasp the concepts and arrive at the answers. Humph. They should memorize the darn tables and THEN learn the concepts behind it. Otherwise, these children are just clueless and remain so.

Until our educational system is willing to admit that math and science teachers have harder material to learn and then teach and thus should be compensated for that increased difficulty, we will continue to have mediocre teachers in these subjects. That would be the necessary first step to get anywhere in our educational system.

Oh and for the record, having qualified candidates in math and science is not a black problem; it's an American problem.

Critical Thinking= reasoning ability = IQ, unfortunately IQ can be improved but it's difficult and will take more than 6 hours of schooling a day to accomplish even marginal improvements.

Actually, reasoning and critical thinking come from one's decision to learn, and someone else teaching. Both the parents and the teachers need to teach this.

I disagree. Both can be learned by autodidacts. For example, Lincoln was an autodidact.

From what I've seen, public schools actually hinder the development of reasoning and critical thinking skills because of their focus on and preference for social-conditioning groupthink above everything else.

Some private schools aren't much better either.
