Might be bad? LOL.

As much energy is used in the production of a car as is used in its average lifetime.

The 'greenest' thing is to run a car till it literally falls apart...

It was, as with most govt programs, simply an irresponsible short term fix to bring forward demand and hope someone else later along the line will deal with the fallout, not you.

Good article, but it's about 3 months late. All of the info was known in October, after all.

Cash for Clunkers should go down as one of the stupidest ideas in US history. Basically it amounted to a theory that we could somehow help the economy and environment by destroying useful and valuable assets. Nobody would be dumb enough to do that in their personal 'economy.' You wouldn't set all your old clothes on fire on the theory that it would force you to buy new. You'd at least give the old stuff to Good Will and get a tax deduction.

I don't think that had been done here since FDR. The broken window theory--- only liberals fail to understand it.

It was written to benefit certain types/groups of people. The environmental crap was an afterthought, added as rationalization.

I thought the whole point was to get the auto industry moving along.

Now conservatives are turning into environmentalists? Since when?

Why did they insist the engines be destroyed if the whole point was the economy?

Would have helped the economy more if dealers could have done as they wished with the vehicles.

you're talking about Bastiat, and exactly right.

I think Team Romney really dropped the ball by not going after 'Cash for Clunkers,' and the auto bailout. 'Cash' was hardly mentioned in the campaign, at least that I saw. Now we're going to get 4 more years of this.

C4C was the equivalent of the 1st Time Home Buyers program that was suppose to help housing. First time buyers just bought homes a few months early and after the program expired home sales dropped drastically. Summer is usually a busy time for home sales but the summer of 2009 was one of the worst on record.

It did not create home buyers, just gave our tax money to people who would have bought within the next year anyway.

Govt Employees creating stupid Govt Programs that do no good. Those Harvard Master Degrees were a waste of good money on people with no common sense.

Yeah, good point, except that if the home buyers tax credit had worked like C4C, it would have been required that their current dwelling be demolished in order to qualify for the $8000 credit.
