I second this motion. Sadly Burdell, I have been trying to work out a deal since Sept 30th 2001 to have Texas take back the shrub... no dice, they don't want him either apparently.

Good question, fish.

Whether folks agree or disagree with what they perceive is the paper's politics, it is still among the top 5 newspapers in the country.

Well OTR, it is still, "The Paper" for the nation. I personally enjoy the NY Times as it is one of the few papers left in America that have journalist in foreign bureaus around the world. Being as big as they are, they have right leaning writers and left leaning writers and by and large it is still the most respected writ in the country.

Well, you sure can buy it nearly anywhere in the US. And probably is viewed as "The Paper" and I do read it, but I've added the Globe, the LA Times, Chicago Tribune and of course the Washington Post to see how they are all reporting the same story, or spinning what's happening nationally and internationally.

Anyone that befouls a consistently Pulitzer winning paper and gloats at its losses isn't reading what I am reading.

I was bummed out when the LA Times closed its foreign bureaus as there are only like three left in America that have such depts. NY Times, Washington Post, Chicago Trib and thats it. The rest is AP and Reuters. These are the only sources of foreign information into the US in print, the rest is via the internet from various other publications and most of those usually refer to AP or Reuters. However, I think I will save this for its own topic

I just had one of those chuckles: when I lived abroad my MIL sent me three sections of the NYT every week. It probably cost her a bundle, but I sure appreciated it.

I've been known to bop over to their website to read an article occassionally, but no way would I ever give them any money, by subscription or newsstand.

And yes, from what I've observed firsthand, Limbaugh and Hannity are right-on in their assessments!

That's more likely to be USA Today. The masses read at a 6th-grade reading level, or something like that.

Ever heard of the Wall Street Journal?

Would that be because it's in one of the most populated cities in the country? Out here in the out back, we have choice.

Glad to hear you have good choices. I've lived in several areas, and although some had a good local or two, none had the breadth or depth of the NYT. Those I mentioned in another thread, and several others were my local mainstay, but where I am now, I wonder what I'll read on international or even national news without subscribing to something like the NYT.
