Like Huntsman, Obama finds a diamond in the dirt that is the Republican party and the right cries foul.

Yep..that we need Hagel more than ever. And now that i know Buchanan is for him, i'm an even bigger Hagel cheerleader.

Who says Hagel is more competent than others? He never held such post before. Judging from his declarations does not provide much indication.

(Interestingly, if I seek a low level job, the list of requirements is very long and always includes a proven track record and relevant experience. Do you think a department store can take the risk of hiring a salesman who did not work in retail)?

I'm fine with this, after all where does it state that one has to bend ALL the way over for Israel to be SecDef? We have enough headaches in the pit of human misery known as the Middle East to add anymore. I want a SecDef that puts our interest first over that troublesome little country.

The reason they want a Republican at SECDEF is to make it easier to do defense cuts. Fact.

If Hagel fails, another GOPer will be hit up who can help pass defense cuts through the Senate.
