The U.S. also assisted Egypt in constructing a high-security fence along the Gaza-Egypt border in order to stop weapons smuggling from the Palestinian territory, according to the article. In any case, the situation in the Middle East is different than in the USA. But again, I do think that USA should focus on its own needs before helping the rest of the world.
A few problems with the article. The sketch is of a fence with the West Bank and not Egypt as stated in the article. Nowhere in the article does it say that the US directly paid for the fence. Quoting what Israel has recieved over a 62 year period does little to connect it the project that was started 2.5 years ago. It does show where there is a will to complete a project, in Israel it actually gets done.
Why is it that the Secure Fence Act signed by Bush in 2006, never materialized?
Was the projected cost of such an initiative way off from the get go or something else?
Unfortunately, congress wouldn't vote for approving the funding of it.
