Yes. You have to look at the whole picture. He's in favor of more realistic military, therefore helping our economy, instead of spending trillions more on it.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee ( AIPAC) is generally considered one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington, DC. They view themselves as a Jewish lobby and apparently have no issue with Hagel's appointment.

I think every US Senator MUST be a US Senator first and anything else second, so there is nothing wrong with that comment. In their efforts to pander to foreigners many US lawmakers behave as if Israeli issues had a higher priority over US issues, and that is just plain wrong. And yes, the "jewish lobby" might as well be referred to what it is, a "jewish lobby". It is not an insult, it is an name which they use themselves.
Israel does not have an issue with Hagels nomination, the Republicans do.
