and said to a group of pro-Israel Americans he was a US Senator, not an Israeli one, what would you say? Would you support that individual's nomination for one of the most important positions in the government?

I have no problem with it. Even the Jewish lobby call themselves the Jewish lobby.

I must have missed the part of the US Constitution that requires all US Senators and political appointees to swear fealty to Israel.

Yes. You have to look at the whole picture. He's in favor of more realistic military, therefore helping our economy, instead of spending trillions more on it.

What bearing does his announcement to Zionists that he is a "US Senator" have on anything?

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee ( AIPAC) is generally considered one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington, DC. They view themselves as a Jewish lobby and apparently have no issue with Hagel's appointment.

I think every US Senator MUST be a US Senator first and anything else second, so there is nothing wrong with that comment. In their efforts to pander to foreigners many US lawmakers behave as if Israeli issues had a higher priority over US issues, and that is just plain wrong. And yes, the "jewish lobby" might as well be referred to what it is, a "jewish lobby". It is not an insult, it is an name which they use themselves.

Israel does not have an issue with Hagels nomination, the Republicans do.

I have never understood why Republicans feel our government leaders must bow down to Israel.

Obama agrees....did you not watch the debates?? His policy agrees as well....we still veto any sanctions against Israel.
