The NRA works for the gun manufacturers and gun sellers.
The NRA's goals are to keep the government from making studying gun violence and possibly holding gun manufacturers and sellers responsible, to get people to buy more guns, and to keep Congress from investigating gun manufacturers and gun sellers.
Any action that the NRA perceives to threaten their business model, they can't tolerate.
so its all about business or could it be they stand for the civil right that defends all others...you know nothing about the NRA, it must be sad to not be able to think for yourself and let the morons at MSNBC do all your thinking for you.

what do you have to fear from a background check unless you are a criminal? I don't understand how anyone in their right mind could be opposed to background checks and waiting periods when buying a gun. do many members of the NRA have criminal backgrounds? then I could see why they would be opposed to it.
I would take it a step further and require gun owners to be licensed. you need a license to drive a car but any idiot can legally own a gun?
No one opposes the concept of background checks. It's the inability to enforce it that leads people to oppose it. If it can't be enforced, it shouldn't be a law.
As far as a license for gun ownership and your comparison to car? Well, you are not legally required to have a license to operate a car on private land. I can go drive in my fields all day long without a license and it's perfectly legal. Second, you don't have a "right" to own or drive a car. That is a privilege granted to you buy the government. However, you do have the right to own a firearm and that right "shall not be infringed"....therefore, a special amount of care and consideration must be taken when considering measures to limit actual rights.
yes if we stand with reason, logical, and common sesen we must be greedy..that is your only argument, we dont care, or we are greedy..you are wrong, we are right we have won you have lost..

and what if your BF or husband (if you're a female) has a violent criminal record, walks into a gun store to buy a gun so he can shoot you with it? should he be allowed to do so without a background check?
Then you should have chosen a better mate.
He could take you out just as easily with a baseball bat or a knife.

Who is advocating to get rid of the current NICS background check system that he would have to pass in order to get this gun? If he buys it at a gun store he will have to pass a background check. Only private sales are not subject to background checks. There is no way to enforce private sale background checks without a central database. (Gun Registration).

Where do they state that they are against background checks?
We already have background checks.
