Alton Logan spent 25 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit.

Christina Eilman's life is permanently crapped because of police ignorance of her mental illness.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? While I am sure some of cases brought against the Chicago Police Department, MANY are without merit. And, the city government and people, being the cowards that they are, would rather payout then fight false allegations. its cheaper to hand out 2k checks to every Tom, Dick, and Harry who complains then fight a 3 yr long lawsuit, which even if they won, cost them even large sums of money.

That is one of the problems with the general public. They see these complaints in their initial stages and never know what actually occurs in the end. MOST are dismissed and others the officers/departments are not found liable at all.

I've brought this up several times. Can ANYONE tell me the outcome of the Rampart Scandal in Los Angeles? The most costly FBI/DOJ investigation in history? Not ONE officer was ever found guilty of the claims made. NOT ONE. One was found guilty of a minor policy violation. The ones you hear about, the two put in prison for armed robbery, WERE NOT a direct result of the original complainant (you know, the moron who stole the cocaine from the lockup, got caught, and decided to rat on everyone to save his butt? That is the basis of the Rampart Scandal.). However, do you are the general public know this? Or even care? Nope.

The Riders in Oakland. TWO separate jury trials. Including minorities on the juries were hung. Couldn't convict ANYONE, of ANYTHING. Even the City Manager of Oakland, at the time said, "I guess we should have held off paying all those people until the criminal trials were over."

I could sit here for the next few days and list all the false allegations made against police officers, all across the country. You, nor anyone else would care and/or listen. You would say they were all made up.

The fact is, there are hundreds of thousands of police officers in the United States. Less then .01% do anything wrong. Amuch better rate then you will find in any other profession in the world. However, peoples inherit hate and distrust, cause it to be the front page of the news. Police officers are people; just like you. They are human; just like you. They make mistakes; just like you. And NOTHING can be done to prevent this. The most strictest safe guards on this planet are in place to try and prevent such errors. However, things will slip through the cracks.

You people expect police officers to be perfect, when its not possible.

No, but in these cases there were blatant evidence of these people not following police procedure. Alton Logan had evidence that he was innocent which was deliberately withheld. In Christina Eilman's case, they failed to follow procedure which states to take someone under a mental breakdown to a psychiatric hospital, not release them into one of Chicago's worst neighborhoods. In fact, they were told by their commander to take her to the hospital. Their reason for not doing so? There was no car available.
